Microsoft says it wants users to graduate from the Wii

It’s glad to see that Sony doesn’t have the monopoly on arrogance.

Jeff Bell the VP of Xbox marketing has been chatting to 1UP and has stated that he wants Wii users to graduate up to a certain experience…

Virtually everyone in the gaming industry has been saying since the Wii was announced that it was a fad and that it wouldn’t last long. However Nintendo are proving them wrong again and again. You would think they would start to be more cautious about the little white box from Redmond…

To give him some credit though he did say he wanted the Xbox and Wii to live side by side in people’s houses. So he is not saying the Wii is a waste, just that the 360 is better.

I have a strange feeling the Xbox department would like to graduate to the profits of the Wii though.

I had the Wii and sold it after a month. The Xbox is much better for the type of games that I like(FPS).

My arm still has not recovered from the strain of bowling.

I think that if you are a Zelda or Mario fan then you will enjoy it but for me my box is king.

Jeff Bell is Microsoft’s answer to Krazy Ken – he’s always saying silly and exceedingly arrogant things. Plus, he has a really punchable face.

I still think the Wii is a fad, my parents wanted to get one, that tells me something.

“my parents wanted to get one, that tells me something.”
I think that tells you its a console for casual gamers. It is a bit of a fad as well. I got the Wii a couple of months ago but my Xbox360 gets way more play time. There are a couple of nice games out now for the Wii like Mario Galaxy, Zelda and No more heroes but I’m going to wait until the are reduced. I’d rather spend my money on xbox games.

Exactly, I really don’t think he’s being arrogant at all, I think it’s a very valid position. To the contrary I find Jeff Bell quite polite and well mannered especially compared to the likes Peter Moore and J Allard, who themselves are absolute gentlemen compared to Kaz, Stringer and most of the Sony Execs.

lol… well… the xbox and ps3 are for the gamers who play games that are hard, and violent and have good stories (more like a age restriction 16 movie) while the wii is fun for every one, but ends up being shallow (like a

After twenty minutes with the Wii, I find myself thinking…Is this it? Once the novelty wears off its boring, I wouldnt waste my money on one!

LOL, doobi that’s all because you see only what you want to see.

I always thought the Wii was a passing trend, but there’s no sign of any change in the air. Nintendo still can’t make enough Wiis, while Xbox 360 sales are stable and maybe even slipping. Bell’s words might come back to haunt him, as did Sony’s pronouncements about the DS.

Abe and Scotty love your comments. If it is a fad then its one of those fads that seems more popular at the moment than the Xbox, PS3 fad.
Harsh I know. Maybe I’ll rename myself to Scotty and only play games which have an age restriction higher than my mental age. Meanwhile, I’ll also go back to playing on the Wii making more unfounded statements such as, all the games are easy, rubbish and uninteresting. And after 20 mins I’ll do an Abe and complain that the Wii is rubbish because my brain can only handle button mashing, moving these arms and wrists requires too much thought…cry me a river

Face it. Hardcore super gamers will always have a monster PC lurking in the basement.

Xbox players is then next in the pecking order with games line up , and probably the biggest spenders on actual software (live arcade included).

Then comes the Wii, for when you have a Kegger, a little sister/child or a grand mother.

I think that there is a place in the world for the Wii, but it is mostly in kindergarden, with zero games on it that might interest me at the moment.

The virtual arcade stuff I get for free via MAME on my PC, so why pay for it on a gamecube with a motion controller?

@Darthdad… Absolutely they put me up in the Hilton to write stories about how there boss is being overly arrogant :P…

@J4NR1K, I have to disagree as I think the Wii is proving itself as a full console on a daily basis. I still feel it will always need to be next to either a 360 or PS3 but not because it’s a lower class console, it’s just different.

Two games makes me want to get a Wii
    1 Super Mario Galaxy
    2 Zelda

@Evilredzombie, Actually according to a recent poll there are more PS3 supporters than Xbox 360 supporters that visit the site.

I have often been told I am anti-PS3 but I fail to see how this article reflects well on the 360? I posted it because I dislike companies being arrogant and I feel that Microsoft is being arrogant here?

@LazySAGamer, I really like this site. It compresses all the articles into the most relevant ones for us SA gamers.
I have both consoles and enjoy them both equally.
I do however feel that there is a bias toward the PS3 and Sony on this site.
If that comment had spewed forth from some Sony exec, I believe the reaction would have been a lot harsher from yourself.
Just my opinion, I really do enjoy your take on the gaming side of things in SA and internationally.:)

@Darthdad, Ah okay that I can most probably agree with. In my defence Sony has a history of arrogant comments (success does that) and the 360 guys are only just warming up…

I do fear they are not going to be stopping anytime soon however….

Anyway thanks for the comments and I am still on my search for a PS3 contributor so if anyone is interested let me know 😉
