Microsoft: “what Star Wars is to movies, Halo is to games”

Halo 5: Guardians is out, finally bringing Master Chief’s story to…well, to another sodding cliffhanger and sequel set up. Hooray! Halo’s 5’s got this sprawling, epic – and terribly convoluted story that requires that you watch all manner of associated transmedia gumph, read a billion comic books and novels just so you know what’s going on.

It’s also complete and utter drivel – so it comes as no surprise to me then that it’s being compared to Star Wars. Speaking to, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg compared Bungie and 343’s series about a mostly mute space marine to a serious of movies about space ninjas with special blood and dudes in white suits who can’t aim. Or something.

“What’s really so special about Halo, and people will feel it the moment they start playing the campaign, is just the richness of the universe and the story and it’s very much like what Star Wars is to movies, Halo is to games,” Greenberg told Gamespot.

“You have that special sauce–it’s unlike anything else. So I think that whole universe and what the team has done at 343 with this game and I would stay staying true to what is Halo as a Halo fan, but also modernizing it and innovating it in some ways that I think makes the game a lot of fun to play and really engaging. We’re optimistic that reviews and fans will respond positively, but of course, we’ll wait and see how people feel about it. But personally, I’ve played all the Halo titles and this one definitely has something special that I’ve never seen before.”

I can’t really argue with that. An incredibly successful, beloved trilogy followed by another that hasn’t quite had the same acclaim? Sounds just like Star Wars to me.

How dare you insult star wars on the internet? Sorry all you’re opinions from now on don’t count (even though your statement is totally true)

I’m sure the new movie will try and wash the memory of Jar jar, Anakin and Padme away nicely

You’ve forgotten how they moaned about Benedict Cumberbatch being Khan in the last Star Wars movie? 😉

You are just trolling for trouble now, seriously.

            Nicely done!

BUT, no. Star Trek and Star Wars share, basically, the word Star and the fact that both have space stuff going on. Beyond that, nothing. For the father, nothing.

True, but given the choice between the two I think Jar Jar is the lesser evil.

Is that why they only made the single player 4 hours long? (Yes I know that is at speed run pace but below 10 hours is really just shameful in my opinion!)

Nevermind removing the staple co-op split screen synonymous with the franchise. That’s just pissing all over the Halo legacy.
