Back in March when it was announced that Facebook had purchased the Oculus Rift technology the creator of Minecraft, Notch, loaded up his personal blog and went to town against Facebook, Oculus and how Minecraft will now not be ported to the Oculus Rift.
I respect Notch for what he has created in Minecraft but not being a Minecrafter myself I can’t really say I have cared much more about him or the platform moving to VR in any real way.
However my respect for the man has gone up a notch as he has now tweeted out the following.
And about now I’m officially over being upset about Facebook buying Oculus. I’m upset about there being a hole in my favorite sock instead.
— Markus Persson (@notch) August 15, 2014
I really believe every single human being needs to stand up for what they believe in and not bow down to public or legal pressure. But what truly makes someone honourable is when they can also publicly admit they have simply changed their minds. Just because something has caused you to be upset now doesn’t mean that in a couple of months time that level of anger or hurt really is still logical.
That is all Notch has had to say about the Oculus Rift at this time but vrfocus has noted that not long after the tweet went out, John Carmack responded by stating
@notch @brendaniribe say the word, ship the source, and i’ll make sure It runs well on you-know-what…

Whether this is John trying his luck or if this is a sign that a deal is in the pipeline is still unclear.
Having two children who love Minecraft I can tell you that the idea of having an Oculus Rift version of Minecraft is a big deal. Granted it would bankrupt me trying to afford two of the devices but the open-ended and creative world of Minecraft could possibly be the very best thing that has happened to Virtual Reality and could push it into the mainstream.

Ugh. Minecraft already gives me severe motion sickness. Just imagine what it would do in a VR environment… Just thinking about it…. Ugh! *runs to bathroom*

Well, the only person who’s not allowed to leave is Rince. We say it’s his home, but it’s a little bit more like Alcatraz.

I just want The Forest and my racing games on the Oculus. Oh, and money for the Oculus.

As a fellow racing fan do you know for sure whether Project Cars will ship in 2014 still? I know its the “official” line but been fairly quiet! Only thing on horizon, excuse the pun, is DriveClub for us PS4 gamers. I know One/360 has Horizon and FM5 (locally), and I know The Crew is due (although I hear it may be postponed/has been already). But nothing else I can think of.

I actually have no idea. After the GRID 2 debacle I’ve been sticking to older racing games.
That being said The Crew is still up for release this year, as far as I know. Though the fact that your car has a health bar is a little bit concerning for me.
At the moment I think Project Cars is the new game I’m looking at getting to quench my racing thirst, but it does seem to have been pushed out to 2015. Unfortunately.

On a separate note. Have you tried Need For Speed World? (I’m not a huge NFS fan, but it’s F2P, so I’m curious)

I am not a PC gamer but have heard of World – from what I hear its good. I played bit of Rivals (need to get back to it) and that was good. Not a sim of course!

I’m actually just in the mood for some arcady fun lately (not sure what’s happening to me). Looked at Rivals and then spotted World. I see it’s F2P, so I’ll give it a try. Looks like it could be fun.
