The Mirror’s Edge demo was finally released this week and I started the download with a little apprehension as I was really looking forward to this game but wasn’t sure if they would be able to pull it off.
Well to cut to the chase, the game is awesome. The demo is horribly intelligently short and really helps build the hype around the game.
My biggest questions around the game were whether or not the controls would be workable and enjoyable. Well DICE took a different technique by moving the jump button from (A) to the left bumper which seemed like a horrendous idea but in reality it works perfectly.
The combat is jarring however and I hope that is kept to a minimum in the full game as jumping over buildings and climbing up drain pipes is more than enough entertainment to keep me going.
From someone who suffers from vertigo I can say that they capture the thrill and fear of heights perfectly.
If you haven’t downloaded the demo yet and are unsure about the game then I highly recommend downloading it, if you don’t have the cap left and were going to download it just to see if it’s good then don’t worry. It is good and well worth the money when it gets released.
Time to apply for a second overdraft.

I wish you could change the shoulder buttons that is map for jumping and crouching to the normal buttons but I guess you cannot have a perfect world.
Otherwise the demo is outstanding and I cannot wait for the full game.

I echo the reviewers sentiments… THOROUGHLY enjoyed this game, it lived up to the hype. Have played through the demo three times now, can’t wait for this title!

Can I ask you to elaborate?
I thought it would be quite handy to give a first impression on the demo, especially since the demo comes in at around a gig which means this free demo is actually about R70.
Though if you feel the ‘demo reviews’ are a waste I am always happy to hear about it.

Thanks for the review Lazy. Not all of us can afford to download it, and I am really interested in this title.

Why certainly my good man.A demo is exactly that,A DEMO.A work in progress,an unfinished product and thus should be treated as such and all demos contain a “not for final review purposes” included in them so while you can provied a first impressions or something of the sort.Saying that it’s the demo review implies that you are giving a score or opinion of an unfinished product and it may not reflect the final quality of the product as what you just “reviewed” is a work in progress.

I still think that in South Africa, with the price of cap, its a great idea to get impressions on a demo, its the same as previewing a game with early code. there is no score involved, but it lets people know if they should prepare to save some cash or avoid the game completely. Maybe calling it a “review” put you off, but in the end its just some initial impressions.

I like it enough… I’m just not so sure it’s going to be fun over a 10 hour period…

I want this game so much!!! Not having the Xbox, I won’t be able to enjoy Gears of War 2 but at least I’ll have this one.
Looks amazing!

A demo is actually not a work in progress or an unfinished product. It is merely a playable section of a game.
However I see your point, from now on we will just give a hands on impression of demo’s and not a review
