Mojang's next cash cow?

As Geoff told you, Mojang’s first non-Mincraft title, Scrolls, released at the beginning of June. Still in beta, it’s a card-battling turn-based strategy game for PC and Mac (the TRUE master race).  So far, it has already sold 100k units, bringing in a cool $2 million.

The game’s developer, Henrik Pettersson made the announcement on twitter:

So, at $20 a pop, that’s $2 million.  Of course, some people may have paid in pounds or euros.  Whatever the exact amount may be, that’s still pretty impressive for a paid beta.  If they’ve hit this milestone after only a month-and-a-half, with relatively no publicity, I wonder if we will see the same kind of insane growth as Mincraft eventually saw.  At least it’s already raking in a decent amount of cash.  I’m with Geoff on this one – sounds like a cool game, but I’m just not sure it would have gotten the same attention if it wasn’t from “the guys who made Minecraft”.  Although, I suppose the same could be said about plenty of crappy games from established studios.

In case you’re still wondering what the game is all about, here is the launch video again.  You can buy the game here.

Honestly? I’d rather just boot up Heroes Of Might and Magic 3 and have a better experience (my opinion anyway)

I’m sure it’s just a typo, and I believe you can’t cut & paste on a Mac because it works like a typewriter so she couldn’t fix it without retyping everything.

In all honesty this game looks really hype, was reading up on how to play this game, seems simple enough but really deep, Excited for this one

I see a lot of hate here for it but it’s actually quite fun. It looks very simple but you soon find yourself reworking your deck the whole time. It feels like a true tcg once you get the hang of. I’ve been playing for a while now and I’m very happy with this title by its merrit alone.

Yeah, I don’t see why there is so much hate, Compared to the endless krap TCG games I have played on android specifically, this game looks to be a winner. I have been waiting long for a decent TGC game to emerge

Indeed and to be honest Hearthstone is not looking all that great. Although I might miss the point completely on that one.

Hopefully it doesn’t overshadow this one though, People tend to lose their mind when it comes to Blizzard, but I’m with you on that one, doesn’t seem all that hype to me, and I don’t know seems very slow too

    SO… 3 guys are standing at a urinal…
The 1st guy finishes up, washes his hands and then proceeds to use sheet after sheet of hand towels to dry his hands and says: “At Microsoft they teach their developers to be thorough”

The 2nd guy finishes up, washes his hands and then uses only one hand towel to dry his hands and says: “At Apple they teach their developers to be thorough, but use less resources”

The 3rd guy finishes up and walks out the door shouting: “Linux developers don’t piss on their hands!”

My dad always said that Techies/Developers wash their hands before they pee because their hands are dirty, Sales people wash their hands after they pee because their totties are dirty 😛
