More details emerge about ‘that’ MW2 scene

MW2Banned

Yesterday was the day that now infamous MW2 scene was released onto the Internet and the gaming forums and news sites have been going ballistic ever since.

The biggest arguments revolve around whether or not Infinity Ward has gone to far or whether it is all fair game seeing as that this is the life that we live in.

Well in an effort to calm the masses Infinity Ward have been releasing some more information about the scene to try and clarify their position before things get out of hand and while the scene’s impact won’t be diluted in anyway it is interesting to see how they have managed to get away with it.

If you haven’t watched the video then stop reading now as there are spoilers ahead.

First up it isn’t the opening scene of the game at all, it’s actually the 4th scene and you are not actually one of the terrorists but rather an undercover agent on infiltrating the terrorist organisation… which makes it worse in my opinion.

However you are in fact given the opportunity to skip this section, prior to reaching it you are warned that the upcoming section could be disturbing and that it can be skipped if preferred.

The reason for the scene is to show you just how evil the Russian villain really is which it manages to do very well from the parts that I have seen.

So is that enough to get away with what is possibly the most disturbing video game imagery I have ever seen?

The first thing I thought about when I saw it was the Columbine massacre, I am sure I wasn’t alone in that thought either.

While I doubt the game will be banned in the larger western regions I could see it having a few problems in the Middle East, Russia and the Australian ratings board will be hard pressed to approve it since they don’t have a 18+ games rating.

I still think that pushing the boundries is the best thing they could have done. Love the idea, and the option to skip is actually a stroke of genius.

exactly, it’s a game. Honestly, I was lucky enough to get the game early and had the game beat long before it was released to the public. When I heard the stories, I couldn’t remember, for the life of me what level everybody was fussing about.

Then again, I smoke lots of weed and played it nonstop. Just bought an Xbox and life is great.

What call of Duty should I play next? I think I wanna go old school!

Before I saw that scene I wasn’t too psyched about MW2. I though it’s just going to be same old COD but I was wrong. Now I WANT to play that game.

Hmm yea, although if welook at GTA sales figures, I think we can correlate a link between controversy and high sales.

It may be that Infinity Ward is deliberately pushing the envelope here to achieve the same result that Rockstar did.

So in Modern Warefare 3 the next step will be you shooting hundreds of babies in an airport. I will buy that 🙂 or maybe not
