shaolin

There have been quite a few Mortal Kombat Spinoff games, and every single one of them has been exceptionally awful – save for one. Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. Set in the Mortal Kombat II timeline, Shaolin Monks was a pretty damned fine co-op game featuring Liu Kang ad Kung Lao in a God of War styled adventure. And it looks like it’s getting an HD makeover.

In a not particularly subtle tweet, NetherRealm’s Ed Boon pretty much confirmed it.

Any of you keen to replay it – or mayhaps even play it for the first time? As i said, it was a pretty damned cool experience, filled with locations and characters you’d recognise from Mortal Kombat II – which, until the most recent entry, was the best game in the series if you ask me.

Not really a big fan of re-releases…but I’d play this.

    Yup, I’d play it! 🙂

And totally agree with you Geoff – MKII was by far the best entry… Until the new one came along. Would love to give Shaolin Monks a spin again, but this time in HD. Now that I’ve read this, I really hope it happens!

Seems like there are a lot of re-releases of games popping up, it’s as if the gaming industry is running out of ideas

Good point. Very few new IPs seem to be landing. That being said, there are a few expected with the next gen consoles!

I’m not that surprised by there being fewer AAA IPs, it’s costs a fortune to develop a new one now because we’ve all come to expect them to be more detailed.

Then you get companies saying 5 mil copies sold isn’t enough. You also get companies like Ubisoft saying they’re surprised by how well Blood Dragon sold. Who knows what’s going on lol

Yeah. Though it they used their heads a bit more than their wallets that might not be the case. I can see how Blood Dragon (which is awesome) did so well. The team were probably told go ahead and have fun screw everyone. And BOOM! Awesomness 🙂

I don’t really mind re-releases. But I prefer them for smaller games – like Bionic Commando Rearmed or Chopperlifter HD. I have Final Fantasy 7 (which I’ve never played) on PC thanks to this trend too.
