Mortal Kombat X is 4 hours long, has 2GB day one patch

Mortal Kombat X is coming next week, and then, finally, we’ll start the slow process of shutting the hell up about it. For now though, it’s the in the news, and as that’s what we’re in the habit of delivering, we’ll continue to write about it. Mostly positively, too. But there’s a bit of bad news for those of you hoping to jump in to a few online matches as soon as you have the game. Like just about every other game, there’s a day one patch for the fighter – and it clocks in at just under 2GB.

That’s according to a redditor, who’s lucky enough to be playing already. He’s been hit with a 1.85GB patch on the PS4, which has been confirmed by other sources. The patch offers bug fixes, difficulty adjustments, and preps the game for online adversarial multiplayer.

MKX-patch

The game’s single player story campaign is also apparently rather short, with unverified reports coming in that game clocks in at just around 4 hours of play – nearly half the time Mortal Kombat 9 took to play. Of course, that game ret-conned the first 3 games, so it has quite a bit more story to work with. The game’s living towers, arcade mode, renewed and lengthy Krypt and online multiplayer will add a healthy dose of longevity.

Of course, that’s still longer than a Street Fighter campaign and a Tekken one put together. Mortal Kombat X is out in less than week

I really Hope SF V at least offers us some more content than most of the other Capcom fighters last gen. It was clear that the games were tourney focused, but damn…Doesn’t mean it has to be that bare bones. Remember Tekken 3? Had a Volley Ball mode, tons of secrets, story mode, hell it even had a freaking 2D beat em up thing going on…

Yeah, but those were in the days you did not have interwebz on your console. Nowadays, fighting games are going the way of CoD. Barely there SP with tons of effort thrown into the multiplayer.

Never really played it for the story. MK was always a good reason to just enjoy beating the crap out of my sister, friends, random people visiting the house, hobo outside my window, person in trunk(all thrust into a little dark room with a very big tv)…ok I lie get my ass kicked 50% of the time.

4 hours is fine for MK. It’s rather long for a fighting game, and nobody plays a fighter for its story. Nobody.

Honestly, the cut scenes just annoy me. I play a fighting game to punch things (and hurt my thumbs from randomly pressing buttons as fast as I can). The “story” just gets in the way of that.

Super misleading and sensationalistic headline…. You do mention a couple of the other features, but seriously, this game will end up getting you probably 100 hours+ of playtime. The story is around 4 hours (And its awesome, like another Mortal Kombat movie essentially – be grateful for it at all, especially when looking at the rubbish ways Soulcalibur 5 or Dead or alive 5 tried to imitate it – idiotically), but then there’s arcade mode, where you fight 10 battles with unique endings for each character, let’s not forget 3 variations per character to play around with/learn, essentially the character roster x 3, then challenge towers of all sorts of varieties, even “living towers” which update daily/weekly/monthly, test your might and test your luck towers, then the Krypt which is for all intents and purposes a first person exploration/puzzle game where you unlock various things. Test your luck alone adds super re-playability (Adding all sorts of stack-able modifiers to matches). Then theres multiplayer. Gosh, I got an insane amount of hours from MK9 and this looks to be similar, expect its longevity to actually be around 2 years+ worth of fun and uncovering new moves and strategies against your friends over beer, online multiplayer matches, gosh… Badly phrased and misleading headline much….

Honestly, I kinda took the heading as the story mode.
Fighting games are made for hours of fun with friends as well as online. Not like the game stops working after 4 hours.

I also immediately connected the 4 hours to the story mode. Especially with all the press short stories have been getting this year. Nothing wrong with the headline…more like sensationalist complaint-posting haha

            April 8, 2015 at 09:32

Pity the headline isn’t “Mortal Kombat X STORY MODE is 4 hours
long, has 2GB day one patch”, is my problem with it… They should change it, I reckon… But anyhoo, super hyped for this, 6 days!

Yup, but is that enough change/innovation? Same developers involved as Injustice so it’s not entirely unexpected.Played Killer Instinct the other day and that was very button bashing-esque and uninspiring. New Gen should include new gameplay aspects, not just shiny graphics imo. Fighters need innovation coz they all seem to be stuck in a rut…Same ol’ , same ol’…rince and repeat.

There’s three variations for each character as well as new finishers. Plus the living towers and factions are new additions. Pick one of the five and fight for supremacy. Not sure how it works but I am intrigued
