Nothing beats humiliating an opponent with the ultimate finishing move after a round of Mortal Kombat. Fatalities have been a regular feature in Mortal Kombat ever since the controversy-courting first game hit arcades. You’re not only killing your opponent, you’re killing them with style, with finishers ranging from simple decapitations to elaborate displays of Ginsu-bladed hats vivisecting an opponent. Some fatalities have been as hard as nails to perform however. Something which Mortal Kombat X will be fixing.
It’s called “Easy Fatality” mode according to GameSpot, who spoke to Community specialist Tyler Lansdown about how certain finishers wouldn’t require ambidextrous finger skills in order to activate. Instead, Fatalities can easily be performed when a certain prompt appears on the screen:
Now, we’ve learned through years and years of study that there are a lot of people who just can’t pull off Fatalities, or they get freaked out or they can’t figure out the timing. […] So when the game launches, you’ll have a couple of those–maybe three of them–day one. You’ll have those just to use and do easy Fatalities on.
Fair enough, and actually helpful for newcomers to the franchise. In fact, players will be able to unlock even more Fatalities as the game progresses, when certain tasks and feats of skill are accomplished:
There are certain places you can unlock those and things like that. So you’ll always have access to easy Fatalities–if you want to use them.
I…like it. Make no mistake, there’s something about knowing all of the Fatalities needed for any character, off by heart. But for me, doing so usually involves deleting a memory center from my brain, usually the one attached to sound purchases and wise investments.. Cutting down on the button combos, by choice, sounds like fun to me. Especially if I want to gross out family members in a hurry.

Nothing like performing a fatality to a room full of family members. Then watching the Video games is bad for you no it is not argument start.

My mom had the uncanny ability to walk into the room whenever a sex scene was in a movie. Even if it is that ONE scene where the girl flashes her boobs for 2 seconds!
I miss her “Perverted little dwarf!” look.

Oh man. That happened when I was around 12. My mother walked into our living room and my bro and I were watching it but there were trailers on. We started sweating as each ad counted down to getting back to the movie. Sadly she hung around too long and we got ‘the look’…

I can see why. Most of the times I need to pause and check the move list for fatalities, because unlike special moves that you spam throughout the match you do fatalities only once per match so it’s harder to remember. The execution is easy enough.

And enter the casuals for easier gameplay mechanics… This kinda defeats the point of fatalities then, doesnt it? This is cool in the sense there were always 1 or 2 Fatalities that you could never pull off like the ones where you have to do a full clockwise 360 on the button pad while clipping ur toe nails in a bucket of Mountain Dew.. so now u just press button and it slaughters..

I like rather doing the sequences more or trying to remember it and doing it during matches. For example: When you and a buddy are playing against each other for a bit of time and you both generate this very close wins that spark a kind of grudge against each other that when a fatality time pops up and your buddy tries his utmost to pull off a spectacular finisher only to miss it by not doing it properly or running out of time brings out the joy in the loser cause he wasnt ‘fatalitied’ if that makes any sense. I loved it way back when that happens where my buddy would be like NO I HAVE TO BEAT YOU I JUST HAVE TO and he rematches me for like an hour and when he eventually wins he would want to pull of the most satisfying finisher only to mess it up and not ‘kill’ me properly lol id laugh so hard and be like shame… you didnt get to ‘kill’ me and he’d be like wait lets do one more… just one more (He really wants to kill me lol) next thing you know its 4 hours later and its still just one more…. lol

How about an option to stick the controller up your rear and you automatically win the game? That’s easy enough for casuals I’d reckon. Fatalities are supposed to be rare, special and (who would have guessed) hard! That’s exactly what keeps them special.
