Mobile gambling

I hate gambling. There are a myriad reasons why, and it’s currently illegal in South Africa outside of registered casinos and betting halls. However, the mobile gambling industry isn’t just growing, it is surpassing traditional betting.

According to SuperData research, “Mobile casino will be 58% of the casino market in 2015”.

Social casino had a terrific 2014, but the sands are shifting as always as new markets like China become more important, while the titans of casino go on acquisition sprees and further consolidate the top performers.

Casino games are fast out performing bingo and slots in the mobile arena, growing by 49% in 2014.

Gone are the days of going out for a night on the town, including an evening of gambling at the casino. Now people can gamble on their way to work, from the couch while watching TV, or while lying in bed with their spouses. Mobile gaming is massive and will continue to grow. Unfortunately, this will make things even harder for those who struggle with gambling addictions – there will be no escape.

I don’t spend that much money on my mobile applications – just the odd game here and there. But even then it is ridiculously easy to do dish out cash, something that the mobile gaming industry has learned far too well. Of course they will continue to make more money; it’s an easy way to gamble without the glamor or the sleaze of a traditional casino.

Are you drawn to mobile gambling? I know I’m not a big mobile gamer in general, but playing those gambling games has absolutely no allure for me. But we know Darryn, for all his cheap ways, actually loves it. It just seems strange to me – if I’m going to lose money, I want to at least feel like it’s gone towards something. This is like the ultimate in micro transactions gone wrong.

Whats even more depressing is that say you come from the club there or eat out at the restaurant section around 12 or 2am… Then you see these old people just drifting around there doing nothing. This one guy even came to me asking for petrol money just to get home cause he spent his salary now and he has no idea how his going to get through the month for his family and his expenses. I was shocked and nauseas just at the thought. He even told me I can come with him to the petrol station to pay for it myself. Was sad.

I tried gambling once. At Grandwest Casino. Used a R100 at BlackJack and won R400, but then kept losing R300 and winning up to R400 and then i realised they didnt want me to win more than R400 lol So I cashed out and thought Fuuuuurck this shizzle lol On the other hand… my buddy is some expert in Roullette and he CONSTANTLY wins R10 000 – R25 000 a month. He doesnt work but wins every month there. So thats his salary. At one time he told oh listen i cant make it I have to go to work lol

Hope he remembers to pay his tax on that, if gambling is his main source of income.

I wish he was bullshitting me though. I was with him on 5 occasions and he won each time I went with him. He basically used that money to go study further since he couldnt afford the career he wanted to study. So it went to something good. Or most of it of course. After the second half of the following year the winnings slowly stopped and then he stopped going. Told me they just not paying anymore. I saw him lose like R10k in like 30mins and says oh well. Next weekend ill give it go again. I almost passed out cause I could have used that money for something really good like uhmmmm new pc lol He also was approached once or twice and was asked if he was using anything specific for his winnings and said no. Later was banned once for “coming too much” to the casino. Was banned for 3 months.

Amazing how they make new rules for “winners”. They really are bastards. Probably best for him that they got him out before he started losing then.

Almost as sad as the kids you see in the entertainment area’s waiting for their scumbag parents to fetch them in the wee hours. When Emperor’s Palace was Caesars I used to see it all the time as I worked at a retail outlet until the early hours of the morning when these fuckbags used to arrive after spending/winning all their cash. I lasted 3 months and called it quits.

I know. That disgusts me. Ive seen children falling asleep on the benches waiting for their parents to get done. When that starts happening you know you have a problem.

I think a parent should realise they have a problem the moment they start leaving their kids in the care of complete strangers.

Guy I work with goes there once a month with his wife. They each take a couple of R100 & play until they get tired or run out of money. Not fussed about winning or losing because they just go to have fun. Best way to do that.

I go once a year, take R600 and play poker against the house. I usually leave with just over or under R600 but can play for 3-5 hours…. also just go for the fun, and lights and sounds… I actually love how casino’s look and feel 🙂

That’s the best way of doing it. Go with a fixed amount and the idea you will lose it. And just have fun.

My parents do the same. They will take like R200 – R300 and just play for the fun of it. When they out of money they come home. If they win they distribute it among us. Its just there times I find that they only find enjoyment in that sort activity apart from anything else. Hell my mother plays casino games on her S3. Its the ones that dont use real money lol

I don’t mind playing the odd gambling game, but I’ve never felt any urge to actually gamble for money. Just doesn’t appeal to me.

Nah, have never gambled on my phone. Have had a few experiences in a casino, but looking at the blue-haired grannies with cigarettes hanging from their mouths throw away their pensions makes me too sad to celebrate winning R4.

I love playing Black Jack, but not at casinos, its seems such a waste to loose 1K when i could have just spend it on a Razer or Steel Series product, hell even save it and get the new Cougar Keyboard.

Sounds like the ‘Installation Limit’ DRM from back in the day, where you could only use 1 serial key ( e.g. Far Cry 2 ) like 5 times – After formatting your HD 5 times without revoking the installation first, you’d lose the money :/

I gambled quite a bit with poker on Silver Sands and Pigs Peak… I even won a few tourney’s!! I really enjoyed it, but I did lose a ton of money!! So I luckily had the will power to stop!! I go online once a year to play with my birthday money Silver Sands give you every year, and then I stop again…

I love casinos, roulette tables paid for my XBOX360 and PS4. But online gaming is another story, it’s very easy losing quickly. At least in casinos there is time between spins and them paying out winners etc.

Gambling terrifies me. I do play poker regularly with mates but it’s more for the social aspect. I have a few OCD issues which help me maintain respect for certain things in life which could escalate. Not Irish whisky though, Irish whisky is all good.

Socially its fun, but when you playing with money that you need… thats the scary part. I try to imagine how it must feel to spend your hard earned salary in like an hour or less only to come home knowing you have no cash for the month.
