Namco Incites Japanese Xbox NerdRage

Namco’s Tales series is extremely popular amongst RPG aficionados, and Tales of Vesperia – once an Xbox 360 exclusive – is the sole reason that many Japanese gamers purchases Microsoft’s console. Namco reneged on the exclusivity, and decided the game was to go multiplatform. Not only that, but its newer, shinier PS3 port would include a myriad of fixes, tweaks and additional content.

Well, those Japanese Xbox gamers are now pissed. Infuriated enough to employ the internet’s most effective method of getting your demands, requests and points completely ignored. That’s right, there’s now an online petition that proves that no matter where in the world they are, fanboys are batsh*t insane…

In their petition, the angry Nipponese dissidents request the following from Namco Bandai :

• • The games should not be dispersed across multiple platforms, they should be consolidated onto one platform [i.e. Xbox 360].
  • The games should be complete and properly made.
  • From now on, the porting of titles like Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia should be abolished.
  • An official apology should be made to Xbox 360 users for the abnormal number of additions made to Vesperia only a year after its Xbox 360 release.
  • The traces of the later additions found in the Xbox 360 edition should be explained.
  • Further bizarre product linkages should not be undertaken.
  • Elements of the Tales series [i.e. Patty Fleur] which cannot be enjoyed by all users should not be added.
  • Characters and the Tales universe should not be toyed with any more than necessary.
  • Certain platforms should not be favoured over others.
  • We wish to see user complaints acted upon.
  • We wish to see more consideration given to the effects of official actions on the fanbase.

Astute readers would have recognised the crazed hypocrisy contained within the petition; the request that games should be one one platform is directly at contrast with a later request that certain platform not be favoured. Then again, it’s not like anyone expects lucidity from fanboys.

Earlier this generation, it was the PS3 hive that reacted this way to news of third party games jumping ship. The internet fury that resulted when Devil May Cry 4 and Final Fantasy XII were announced for the 360 was comical – until people started committing ing suicide. Then it just got sad. On the one had, I can sympathise with them; with many of them buying their 360s based on the game’s supposed exclusivity, their anger and frustration is understandable.

On the other, who really takes the word “exclusive” seriously when it comes to 3rd party games this generation?
