EEDAR, those folks who like to research things that have to do with entertainment have released a very interesting report about gamers and DLC purchasing. According to the report and their data, 49% of gamers don’t buy DLC, specifically over the last 12 months.
The reports via eurogamer also show that gamers who don’t purchase DLC are on the decline, as more and more eventually open up to the ideas or find something they like.
EEDAR also did another survey which tell us why. More after the jump.
From what they report, the amount of gamers who don’t buy DLC is down from 60% in 2010 and 66% in 2009, meaning that publishers are getting happier by the year. What it hopefully really means, is that downloadable content is actually getting better and more valuable.
According to the men in the white coats, DLC make over $875 million this year, with 2012 exceeding the $1 billion mark. That’s a lot of dough.
Here’s the reasons that over 3500 participants gave for why they’ve decided to not buy additional game content so far:
- Privacy: 47 per cent
- No return policy: 38 per cent
- Too expensive: 32 per cent
- Enough free DLC: 24 per cent
- No demo: 24 per cent
- No reviews: 21 per cent
- None for interested games: 20 per cent
- Not adequate description: 20 per cent
- Not enough gameplay: 18 per cent
- Only online multiplayer available: 18 per cent
- Only single player available: 15 per cent
- Process takes too long: 15 per cent
- Complicated storefront: 15 per cent
- Not released when wanted: 12 per cent
- Not high enough quality: 11 per cent

What reasons do you have either way? I buy occasionally but usually do some hectic research into it first and have to really love the game.
Some I never buy just because I’ve been meaning to go back to the game and play the additional content, but never actually find myself ready to back, especially not with the amount of new stuff that comes out these days.
