The Need for Speed franchise has thankfully been granted a Criterion-fueled return to form and is promising to bring back the glory days of cop chases and exotic cars rather than Hondas with flame stickers on them.
The first reviews are hitting the net and the game has so far been rated by IGN, Eurogamer, CVG and more. So then, the important question… is it looking like a worthwhile purchase or did it fall flat on its face?
The current PS3 Metacritic score for Hot Pursuit (Xbox 360 is still waiting on more reviews) is sitting on a mighty 93/100 with the Official Playstation Magazine dishing out a perfect score.
It seems like the real star of the moment really is Criterion, with most reviews summaries praising them directly as much as the title itself. IGN gave it a 90/100 saying:
Pure over-the-top driving entertainment. The cars and environments are gorgeous, the crashes are spectacular, and the new Autolog feature breathes new life into the time-honored tradition of video game competition among friends.
CVG, Eurogamer and Eurogamer Italy have all awarded the game a 90/100, both emphasising that this new Hot Pursuit is by far the best Arcade Racer of the year, and maybe one of the best ever made.
Impressive looking reviews then. It will be interesting to see how the score looks after more and more reviews roll in. Will it drop down or will the new scores only prove its worth even more? We will have to wait and see.
We have not yet received our review copy, but you can be sure that we will have our full review of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit live as soon as possible, so stay tuned.

THERE AREN’T ANY JUMPS D:
And the weapons for the racers are particularly uninventive – they should have more authentic stuff like oil slicks instead of just recycling cop weapons…
