Neversoft is being absorbed by Infinity Ward

Neversoft is not, as you’d imagine, a generic brand of Viagra. It is in fact the developer responsible for the good Tony Hawk Hawk games, and the later Guitar Hero games. If a recently leaked memo is to be believed, it will soon no longer exist.

According to an internal memo leaked to the chaps at Giant Bomb, Neversoft will be absorbed in to Infinity Ward to form a “Super Studio.”

“The impact of [Neversoft’s] 20-year run of hard work and success cannot be overstated,” wrote Hirshberg. “We are merging these two very talented teams and obviously had to choose a name for the combined studio. Since the Infinity Ward brand is indelibly tied to the Call of Duty franchise, it is the sensible choice.

“While it will be strange to not see the Neversoft logo on future games, the important things–which are the Neversoft team’s talent, creativity, professionalism and commitment to creative excellence–all remain unchanged as part of this new chapter,” says the apparent memo.

Neversoft teamed up with Infinity Ward to produce Call of Duty: Ghosts, a partnership that Activision believes to be rather fruitful. I think it’s produced the worst Call of Duty since Treyarch’s rushed and broken Call of Duty 3. Infinity Ward could do with the talent after the exodus that formed Respawn Entertainment though.

The  merger does unfortunately mean that key people from Neversoft will be leaving the studio. Studio head Joel Jewett and studio director Scott Pease will both be leaving the company after 20 years at Neversoft.

"As a gamer, all I can say is that I hope both Joel and Scott come of ‘out of retirement’ someday and develop more great Activision games for us all to play," said Hirshberg. "As a colleague of Joel and Scott’s, all I can say is thank you and congratulations on an incredible run."

Lol I really enjoyed it, mainly because it was Bruce Willis. My young mind was just infatuated by playing a game as Bruce. I even had the Die Hard game too. Was like a collection of shooting and driving mini games

I really liked the Die Hard game. It’s difficulty was through the roof though.

Most of what was said above can be replaced with “EA abosrbed” and “[any of the studios under EA]” Look how well that works. Hopefully this isn’t the case this time round
