Okay, so I read an announcement about a new game from the director of Dragon Age: Origins and I immediately wrote it off in my head as something I wouldn’t be interested in. But then I did my due diligence and looked into the game, and it’s actually looking incredible. I want it now.
Sword Coast: Legends promises all the stuff we’ve come to expect from an RPG, but then it goes even further. First of all, just check out this trailer.
Based on the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms universe and populated with all the D&D lore you could ask for, the game actually has a bunch of cool features:
- Single player campaign created by members of the leadership team that brought you Dragon Age: Origins
- Choose from five playable races and six unique character classes to build your own stalwart adventurer
- A return to form, Sword Coast Legends is the compelling and complex RPG you’ve been waiting for and features pause time, party-based tactical combat and involving storylines
- Dungeon Master Mode: Create your own epic adventure to share with your friends, or enhance their experience in real time as they traverse your dungeon
Deep storytelling, compelling characters, and tactical combat? I think they just made a bunch of people very happy. The game is coming to PC this year and you can already pre-order it if you still believe in pre-orders. I’m just happy to see such a pure D&D game from the team behind Dragon Age: Origins. I know that they can deliver incredible experiences and I’m excited to see what they do with this game.

Baldur’s Gate 2 is the greatest RPG I have ever played. Still do…keep playing it over and over and it’s always epic…

Did you play DA:I yet? Combat is extremely streamlined and simple, much action orientated and flashy. Tactical View hardly matters.

I’ve used the tactical once or twice and each time I was horrified at how clunky and awkward it feels.

Exactly this, it’s pointless and there aren’t even that many tactical options available. Its more of an ARPG

AD&D lore. Forgotten Realms is AD&D. Not D&D. Very different rules and so forth.
And I apologise for the pedant comment. (I hope I am not wrong) But the 45 odd story books, the player manuals, the TWO different Forgotten realms role playing box sets may prove otherwise. Pen and Paper stuff.

I suppose so. It is just I am old school on this stuff and have so much in my head of the lore, the rules and so forth.
The sword coast is interesting, but a game in a place like Calimport or even the Dales sounds more interesting to me. How about an Elminster game, the coming of age for him?
