New Gears of War coming to E3, under a new studio

Good news! The brand new Gears of War will finally debut at E3 in just under two weeks. Bad news? Well, there isn’t any. Gears of War is now being developed by a brand new studio. It just so happens that they’re identical to Black Tusk.

Having undergone a rebranding before the debut, Black Tusk Studios will now be called The Coalition. Producer Rod Fergusson made the announcement in an equally alarming matter, citing the need for the studio to attach itself to the Gears of War franchise. Much like 343 has done with Halo, and Turn10 with Forza Motorsport.

When people hear 343 Industries, they associate it with Halo; when they hear Turn 10 Studios, they know that’s who makes Forza. Moving forward, when you hear The Coalition, we want you to think of Gears of War.

The term “Coalition” is ripped start from Gears of War lore too – with the government in charge of driving back the Locust hoard bearing the name Coalition of Ordered Governments (or COG, for short). This association will forever tie the studio to Microsoft’s shining franchise – even if it sounds a little silly at first.

The news that we should focus on is the fact that we’re finally going to see what The Coalition has been cooking up for so long. We already know a remastered version of previous Gears of War titles is on the way, but this is going to be our first look at the future of the shooter. And who knows, it might even be in our hands before the year ends.

So make sure you catch Microsoft’s press conference on Monday the 15th – which is about the only one broadcasting at a reasonable time locally.

I dunno. When I hear Isis I think Egyptian Goddess and daughter of Geb. But hey. That’s probably just Howard Carter and I who think like this.

Is the danger zone a zone of danger that one finds oneself in after a particularly obvious bait? Or is it just any zone that is dangerous?

Edit: I.e. would the Bermuda Triangle be considered a “danger zone”?

It’s a zone where Trevor puts people who he deems to be dangerous to themselves!

It lacks imagination, depth, quality, intellect, and there is a distinct lack of talent in the voice acting. All in all, I’d rather watch How To Train a Cow to Eat Grass Slowly.

Gears of War should have been renamed to Gears of Cover Shooting® during the rebranding of the studio. I think that would be more catchy.

Having dedicated studio’s on a dedicated franchise means quality. When you mention Turn 10 and 343 you know which games come under those studio names and what kinda quality to expect.

So Treyarch does all of the CoD: Black Ops titles (as well as Cod 3 & CoD: World at War). Infinity Ward did CoD 1, CoD 2, CoD 4: Modern Warfare, CoD: Modern Warfare 2, CoD: Modern Warfare 3, and CoD: Ghosts.

So there are only two studios responsible for the CoD franchise under one publisher. And they’re all equally horribad. 😛

But thanks for not answering my initial question at all, @foxoneza:disqus. ^.^

COD 1, 2, and Modern Warfare were great games that evolved the FPS genre and you can see that it’s the same publisher responsible for those games. COD 2 has an almost perfect review score even here on LG.

I understood your initial question on the premise of one studio doing the whole franchise.

Except when your dedicated studio has only ever worked on a Flight Sim and a Kinect game.
