Sorcery, for the PlayStation Move was supposed to give you the chance to experience life as a boy-wizard, filling in the void left by the rather mediocre games actually tied to the Harry Potter licence.

In some ways its succeeded – but the game – fun, yet flawed – failed to live up to expectations. Well, now you’ll be getting a second chance at motion-controlled wizardry with a new Harry Potter game headed exclusively for the Xbox 360 and Kinect.

The new game will span all 8 films – showing your progression through the entire series – and will let you relive the film franchise’s most memorable moments as the core cast of Harry Potter – as well as letting you craft your own as a custom designed character. You’ll use Kinect not only for standard motion control, also using your voice to cast spells.

Now before you go shouting “Expecto Crapola,” I’m going to remain cautiously optimistic here; the game is being developed by Eurocom, the guys behind the fantastic Dead Space Extraction – which showed Wii gamers that it was possible to create a compelling “hardcore” experience using casual-oriented hardware. Maybe, maybe they’ll be the ones to deliver the Kinect experience we’re all still waiting for. Besides, it can;t be any worse that Star Wars.

“Harry Potter for Kinect will engage Harry Potter fans old and new by bringing them into the wizarding world as truly active participants,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President of Production and Development at Warner Interactive. “Kids and parents will enjoy recreating their favourite Harry Potter adventures, from flying a broomstick in a Quidditch match, to battling pixies and duelling other wizards.”

Here’s the game’s debut trailer.
