In what can only be described as a bizarre move Sony has revealed that one of the new PS3 super slim models that will be released in Europe, Australia and probably here won’t have any hard drive at all and will rather be fitted with 12Gb of flash memory.
It’s an obvious response to the 4Gb Xbox 360 but while that wasn’t a great idea by Microsoft it is still acceptable as very few Xbox 360 games require an install so if you are an offline gamer it can be a usable option.. if only barely.
However with the PS3 a large portion of their games have an installation requirement meaning that if you buy this new 12Gb PS3 and also buy Heavy Rain (4.9Gb mandatory install) and Rage (8.5Gb) at the same time you can only play one of them at a time.
Granted you can install a new HDD into this model but I can see this becoming a major problem really quickly for the casual gamer who wouldn’t expect this.
