Star Wars the Old republich Knights of the Eternal Throne trailer

I once tried my hand at The Old republic, BioWare’s long running Star Wars MMO. It confirmed what I’ve pretty much always known about myself – I don’t like MMOs. Even the promise of exploring a massive Star Wars universe with new stories that expand upon the years before any of the films take place couldn’t rope me in. But I’ll be damned if I ever miss on the the series’ utterly fantastic trailers.

It started with the very first CGI trailer for the game, and since then has just evolved into a series of shorts that any Star Wars fan would fan themselves drooling over. BioWare has revealed a brand new expansion for their MMO set to launch in December. Titled “Knights of the Eternal Throne”, The Old Republic will thrust players into the role a veteran of the Great Galactic War, taking on the evil Emperor Valkorion and Empress Vaylin.

Maybe if I actually played the Old republic I’d know a little more about what that means, but for now the expansion’s new trailer is all I need in my life.

I’m waiting for the day when studios behind trailers like these start pushing out longer content, because honestly I’d have no qualm watching an hour of something like that. Aside from the visual loveliness, the trailer gives players a good indication of the central conflict surrounding Empress Vaylin and her ridiculous Force power, continuing the story that was started with the previous expansion, Knights of the Fallen Empire.

The expansion is out on December 6th, with The Old Republic still maintain free-to-play status and keeping player numbers relatively high. Is it enough for me to wander back in and give it another go? Probably not, but for those already playing this might be some sweet content to take you into the new year.

  1. I played this in Beta, and then a bit just after it went FTP, but was distracted by other shiny titles at the time. I may just try this again, I really enjoyed the Beta and the bit I put in later. Maybe when I run out of WoW time again or something 😛

Played it through the first 6 months. Had a successfull raiding guild I was leading at the time and then it got super boring really fast. Tried going back once or twice but meh.
