I usually laugh off any sort of hunting/fishing game, especially those that come with some sort of silly peripheral, but this time I am paying attention.

It only takes one look at the peripheral above to see that the developers of the now announced “The Hunt and The Strike” for Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii aren’t messing around. The game will be made by Griffin International, XS Games and Bass Pro Shops and they are describing their title as “the most realistic hunting and fishing experience”.

There is also going to be a rifle peripheral, although it will only be available on the Wii, so Xbox 360 users are going to have to use the good ol’ thumbsticks I assume, and then switch to the rod when it’s time to “git sum big’uns”.

I want this game to not suck, I’m not a fan of hunting or fishing in any way, but it really is about time that someone stepped up to the plate and made something good. So who knows, maybe this game will be good, I have posted up a description of what the game will be about as well as release dates and pricing, after the jump.

Taken directly from unscripted360.com:

The Strike puts the fishing rod in players’ hands as they head out to their favorite fishing holes, including ten of North America’s greatest lakes. Featuring realistic lake bottom topography, advanced graphics, life-like fish behaviors, fully customizable characters and an abundance of boats, lures, rods and reels, The Strike offers virtual anglers the most realistic fishing game experience to-date. Players will enjoy a variety of game-play modes including Quick Fish, Career and Bass Pro Shops Invitational Tournament, or they can compete with friends in boat racing and casting challenges.

The Hunt drops players into the wilderness of North America’s most famous hunting locations where players will be able to stalk and hunt their prey using a variety of different firearms-bolt-action rifles, shotguns, pistols, bows, and knives. To help them in their hunt they will use Bass Pro Shops gear and equipment like calls, scents, stands and a uniquely designed GPS to guide the player to the action. The Hunt features three game modes: Quick Hunt, Career Mode, and the Bass Pro Shops Continental Classic Hunting Championship as well as four mini-games (Target Range shooting, ATV Racing, Blind Fire, and Coyote Cruise).

The game with the peripheral is going to priced at $69.00 which should translate to anywhere between R700 – R800 here once it’s on local shelves, and the game without the peripherals is set at $39.00, so possibly around the R450 – R500 mark?

The Strike and The Hunt is set to release in South Africa’s Spring of this year, so expect it somewhere in the months following up to the holidays.

It’s odd that I feel interested in this game, maybe it’s just my hopes that these guys may actually do a good job.
