And here ends our mini soap opera, earlier this week I posted about the fact that TV3 in New Zealand had created a blatant copy of a Kevin Butler ad to market it’s Monday night movies…

A few days later Kevin Butler himself responds and calls out TV3 for the blatant copy and then the actor in the advert goes as far as to say the two ads were identical.

Not a day later and TV3 in New Zealand are now confirming that the advert will no longer be aired. According to the official line it has managed to publicise what they wanted and that’s the end of it.

Now call me stupid but if an ad campaign is going great you don’t generally just pull the plug, that is unless you receive a letter from a larger company in the mail strongly suggesting you pull it.

They don’t mind having to pull the ad at all. They’ve already got all the buzz and publicity that they wanted from it. Clever marketing really.

Unless Sony secretly own all their souls now in exchange for not taking legal action
