Next Tony Hawk to be Hands Free

That’s right, according to Activision executives from a game summit that is currently going on, the new Tony Hawk title is going to not make the use of our hands.

Everyone seems to be jumping on the peripheral bandwagon and to be honest I didn’t think it was necessary. I really grew to dislike the Tony Hawk series and found a lot of joy in the fresh and incredibly playable Skate from EA.

Skate took an idea that had been killed by the Tony Hawk games and rejuvinated it with a new and incredibly intuitive control scheme, forcing Activision to put their series on hold so that they could find a way to bring the Tony Hawk franchise back into everyones good books.

The more that I think about it, the more I can see how Activision felt so stumped about what to do that they eventually took the new “casual” route, which means pumping out something that comes bundled with a shiny toy that everyone will want to try.

More after the jump.

There were reports earlier in the year that the game may use some sort of motion controller but I still think that they could have brought the franchise back by changing a lot less.

We will have to see what they come up with and to be honest it better be good because chances are that if the game is going to come bundled with some sort of peripheral, it isn’t going to be cheap so I really hope that it is something worthwhile.

I wonder if you will get extra points if you can play Dragonforce on Expert whilst doing a 360 flip to backside tail slide?

  1. Who says it’s going to get a peripheral? If that want it to be hands free they may choose to make the game voice activated like EndWar…LOL

Activision will really have to do some good to beat EA and Skate.

EA beat them to it with skate it, and failed.

As far as I know it is an in-game advertising summit hosted by Massive
