NGP Uncharted game won’t be developed by Naughty Dog

Sony’s new NGP is a pretty neat piece of hardware. It’s definitely packed with features and has some serious muscle power underneath it. That’s all well and good, but it was actually the brief glimpse of a portable Uncharted that got me excited.

With the NGP comes the ability for development studios to port their PS3 games in a matter of weeks. That, however, is not what we can expect with Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series – the third instalment of which is due to hit the PS3 in November this year. The Uncharted game for the NGP will be an entirely new Uncharted story and not a port of Uncharted 1 or 2.

More Uncharted is excellent news, but the news that Naughty Dog won’t be behind the NGP version is a little iffy. It’s not all doom and gloom though, as Sony’s internal development team, Bend, will be taking on the task. They’re the team behind the excellent PSP games Syphon Filter and Resistance: Retribution.

The extra good news is that Naughty Dog will still be keeping a close watch on how the NGP game is developed. Uncharted is arguably Naughty Dog’s most important franchise, so it’s not likely they’ll let another dev team run it into the ground… like certain Hollywood producers are about to do.
