ds-upgrade

Nintendo has announced that it will release an upgraded model of the Nintendo DS. Featuring a camera, music playback and more modernized features, it will be available in Japan later this year.

According to reports from Japanese-language newspapers Yomiuri and Nikkei Net, pictures taken with the camera will be usable in games released for the system. Meanwhile, it is predicted that CD’s and other music will be able to be imported onto the DS for playback but there are no details on how exactly this will work. The Wi-Fi antenna is also getting a power boost as well, although we don’t yet know what it will be upgraded to just yet.

The upgraded DS will be released in Japan this year at a price of “under 20,000 yen” (R1,550.00). For reference, the current DS sells in Japan for 16,800 yen (R1,300.00).

Wow I hope it gets here at R1550 (doubt it though). The only reason i kept my original DS and didnt get a Lite was because of the price. Anyway, how can they put camera usage into games when only the new DS will have a camera? Or am i missing something here…

Nintendo hasn’t announced a thing. this is currently rumour and speculation – Nintendo’s offical response at the moment is “no comment”. Of course…that doesn’t mean it’s not true… 😉
