Thought Nintendo’s star was waning? Think again! The Japanese console manufacturer (and undisputed commercial winner of this generation of consoles) has reported some pretty incredible sales for their hardware during the Black Friday retail rush.

It probably helps that they’ve got a pretty good line-up of games at the moment, including the rather endearing Kirby’s Epic Yarn, and the tough as nails return of Donkey Kong Country. How many consoles exactly  did the company move in the Black Friday week?

600,000 Wiis and 900,000 DS’s between between 21 November and 27 November, that’s how many. "US shoppers bought about 9,000 Nintendo hardware systems nonstop for every hour of every day during the week of Black Friday," said Nintendo of America’s vocal roast beef of a boss, Reggie Fils-Aime.

"For the past several years, consumers have decided that Nintendo defined both top value and all-inclusive entertainment, and that sentiment continues again at the start of this shopping season." Sony and Microsoft have yet to release their figures, but they’ve probably done pretty well too. For the sake of comparison, the US’s biggest selling console for the whole of October was the 360 – which moved 350,000 units.

"The holidays are more important to Nintendo than to other manufacturers. We have a distinct edge when it comes to gift-giving," said Fils-Aime…and he may be right.
