I would have never expected seeing a headline such as this in the early 2000’s when the GameCube was tanking and the Xbox was merely an annoyance to the allmighty PS2’s domination.
But my haven’t things changed, VGChartz have put together their list of the 50 best selling games of the 2000’s and while we still have close on two years to go I don’t expect to see a major shift in the standings.
Nintendo as a publisher has published 9 out of the top 10 games and 15 of the top 20 titles, TakeTwo make a gallant effort with 3 titles in the top 20 with Sony taking the last 2 spots, just knocking Microsoft’s Halo 3 into 21st spot. But that is guaranteed to outsell Gran Turismo 4 on PS2 in the next 2 years so we could possibly give Microsoft this one.
The top 20 list is after the break but to point out the obvious flamebait first up… the PS3 has a single title in the list and it’s all the way down in 44th place, the 360’s top title is in 21st and has 4 in title and the Wii’s top title is top of the list (Wii Sports) and in total the Wii has 9 titles in the top 50.

It hurts my gaming pride to see Nintendogs so high on that list…

How can you count two games that are bundled with necessary equipment? It’s not like people would honestly actually buy Wii Play by itself.

Not sure why they count games bundled with the console and periphals, I mean who would honestly buy Wii Play by itself. Even Wii sports by itself is not so good. Sigh times are a changing this is the error of the casual gamer who likes virtual dogs over virtual hookers 😉

I really don’t see how they can count bundled games as sold games. Any console maker could by that logic give away a number of games with their consoles and have more places in the list. It makes no sense.

I agree with all 3 of you but even if you remove Wii Play and Wii Sports Nintendo still have the top title and are still completely dominant

“Nintendo still have the top title and are still completely dominant”
That is like saying Toyota have been dominant in the car market for the past ten years. I drive a Toyota, but would much rather drive a Ferrari. 😉

I think even Toyota would be ashamed to be compared to Nintendogs 😉
And yes we are allowed to mock it as it made them stinking rich so the last laugh is on us 🙁
