Nintendo responds to claims the 3DS is causing headaches

The 3DS is now available worldwide and as such the complaints from people getting headaches from the 3DS or feeling nauseous have increased tenfold to the point where Nintendo felt they needed to make a comment.

So Nintendo UK’s PR boss, Rob Saunders, came out and stated

“We have shown Nintendo 3DS at multiple events around the world to literally hundreds of thousands of people and have received very few negative comments,”

“As with anything that requires focus, from reading to staring at a computer screen, taking breaks frequent breaks is always recommended. When viewing any kind of 3D images (TV, movies etc.), some people might experience minor discomfort.”

“The effects are short term and have no lasting effect, in fact most players can continue after taking a short break. The Nintendo 3D was designed with a 3D depth slider that lets users adjust the 3D effect to a level that suits them for optimum enjoyment

So basically it’s not happening and if it is happening then you need to take a break or tone down the depth slider.

I hate to break it to him though but it is happening to certain people and it’s not due to playing for to long.

The problem exists when you have one eye stronger than the other which means your eyes and brain need to work extensively harder to keep the 3D image in focus and as such you can very quickly start feeling nauseous and at other times you will quickly get a head ache.

Rob’s last advice is spot on here though as once you turn the 3DS off using the slider the problem goes away… as does the 3D effect.

Unfortunately I am one of the poor souls who gets affected by this which is why I know it exists, does it make the 3DS a bad purchase for me? No, I still enjoy the games, the graphics and the 3D effects in shorter bursts.
