The Nintendo Switch will retail for R5600 locally

Switch

Want one of Nintendo’s latest pieces of hardware? Well prepare to shell out then, as the console isn’t exactly going to be cheap. Thanks to Cheapgamer, we’ve got our first official price for the device: R5299. That’s the price that Takealot has set for either the regular grey version or the neon red and blue console that’ll be out in March. I’ll update this post with more prices from other retailers soon, but expect that number to remain constant locally.

Update: It’s actually R5600, as the price listed on Takealot is for a pre-order savings of R300. Yeesh.

Yeah no….still not convinced that the 3rd party support will be there, and far too expensive to buy for one or two Mario games. Thus, I’ll wait a year or two and see where this goes.

It’s fun the first few hours, but ultimately is a very shallow game. Not going to be picking this up. Combat is the same across all characters and once you get down to it blocking in 3 different directions is all there is to it.

10 Reasons why the Wii-U failed:

    10. Poor Launch Lineup
    9. Half-Hearted Online
    8. Too Expensive For What It Offers
    7. Nintendo Got Cocky
    6. Released At The Wrong Time
    5. The Wii’s Reputation
    4. Underpowered Hardware
    3. Terrible Third Party Support
    2. The Tablet Controller
    1. The Name

    http://www.goliath.com/gaming/10-reasons-why-the-nintendo-wii-u-failed/9/

    Lets see what they fixed:
    1) The name

    What they didn’t
    10) Lineup is rubbish
    9) Online subscription is more like paid demos compared to PSN/Xbox Live
    8) Price is very close to a new PS4 /Xbox
    7) “Instead of predicting what consumers would want out of a Wii successor, Nintendo told them what they wanted and this decision ultimately backfired.” I
    6) They are releasing this when Sony and Microsoft are releasing new consoles that offer 4k.
    5) People still remember the Wii and how it was an affordable console.
    4) No Mass Effect Andromeda
    3) No Mass Effect Andromeda
    2) Adds further expense that doesn’t help it compete with the Xbox/PS4.

We buy a slot of stuff from overseas using a global supplier.: customs will want their piece of that kit, plus the shipping will be a few hundred as well.

It will probably not be worth it, all told.

Free shipping to SA? We struggle to that right.

AND, local customs sees it come in with the courier and wants to add a little bit as well.

AND customs sometimes hits hard, with electronics that you can buy here? If they are awake, it will cost. How much? Who knows?

We paid R50 to R400 for cloth nappies we brought in, who knows how they calculated that?

Amazon has a once off price so what you see is what you get, Once you proceed to your cart you see total cost for delivery, customs, ect. so if you get free delivery its worth. All depending on products of course. I purchased my entire streaming setup at a 10th of a price of SA retailers. Took 15 days to get delivered for me.

            January 27, 2017 at 11:47

And they delivered Electrical kit from US to here? Damn, they stopped doing that years ago, good to know you can do it again.

Like i said, we buy a lot of stuff, but a wide range of things:

Talking teddy bear from China. Total Cost to get it here R150. Cost at shop R599. Took 2 months. I like that.

          • miaau

            January 27, 2017 at 11:49

Amazon shows you customs costs? Surely that is an estimate only, as they cannot decide what SA Customs will do.

          • Alessandro Barbosa

            January 27, 2017 at 12:27

Nope, he’s right. They are able to calculate customs and add that to the checkout price. They then deal with customs here and pay everything. It’s a really great system.
