Nintendo will not be the next SEGA

For some reason, many are convinced that Nintendo is doomed (it’s not) and that the best course of action for the Japanese company would be to do a SEGA; abandon the hardware business and stick to just making those incredible games. Well, it’s not happening.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, who’s already proven himself to be a bit of a forward-thinking guy, believes that while going multiplatform might help in the short term, it certainly won’t do the company any favours over time.

“If I was to take responsibility for the company for just the next one or two years, and if I was not concerned about the long-term future of Nintendo at all, it might make sense for us to provide our important franchises for other platforms, and then we might be able to gain some short-term profit,“ he told CVG.

“However, I’m really responsible for the long-term future of Nintendo as well, so I would never think about providing our precious resources for other platforms at all.”

And he’s right. Nintendo’s rich and unique library of games is the reason people buy Nintendo’s hardware. It’s certainly not because of the lacklustre 3rd party lineup.

Don’t be so sure! Nintendo isn’t doomed yet, I think the company need to emback on a new strategy.

I’m a Nintendo fan and bought all the consoles so far(still got my n64,gbc,gba,gamecube,wii all in working condition) expect for wii-u and to be fair it took a long time before I decided to buy a 3s and the simple reason is price.

I can buy cheap xbox360 and ps4 games cheap or even cheaper pre-owned but yet the 3ds game prices just don’t seem to be dropping even after a year of a games released.

Nintendo is more aim towards young children then it is towards adults and yet they expect children to pay though the teeth, it needs to be more pocket money friendly.

I can tell you exactly why nintendo is not doomed, simply the fact is that, Nintendo is worth about 18 billion and worth a significant amount more then sega during the doom of sega, nintendo has enough to cover its losses, So even if the wii u fails hard nintendo has more then enough money to make a high powered console to put themselves back in the game.

Sega started 3rd party, became 1st party, then returned to 3rd party. In Japan Nintendo has always been first party. In America they went from 3rd party to 1st party. Since they’re based in JAPAN, they’re going to keep doing what they’ve done for over 35 years (no, the Famicom was NOT their first system).

No, they have NOT been making VIDEO GAMES for 124 years, HANAFUDA, yes, but video games NO! They have been making VIDEO GAMES for 36 years, and they’ve been doing that for over 35 years- do your homework next time.

Is this 1996, or 2001, or 2006, or 2013??? They said Nintendo was doomed when the N64 was the main system. Again in 2001 Nintendo was doomed when they made the GameCube. In 2006 the Wii and Nintendo were doomed. Now, in 2013 Nintendo is “doomed”. Well, for the last 20 years they’ve shown it’s great to be “doomed”!!
