If there’s one thing I hate in fighting games, it’s console exclusive characters. It’s something Namco pulled last gen with Soul Calibur IV – with Star Wars’ Yoda bizarrely appearing in the Xbox 360 version, while PlayStation 3 owners got Darth Vader instead. In Street Fighter X Tekken, the fat Mega Man was exclusive to PlayStation platforms. In the last Mortal Kombat, God of War’s Kratos was a bonus character in the PlayStation version of the game. It’s stupid, because if the game gets picked up in the tournament scene, those characters end up being banned anyway. It doesn’t look like the same will happen in Mortal Kombat X.
Speaking to Hardcore Gamer at PlayStation Experience, NetherRealm Studios executive producer Shaun Himmerick says fans needn’t worry about having to make the decision between which console to get the game on. “We have no platform-exclusive characters planned for Mortal Kombat X,” he told them. That’s despite Ed Boon apparently telling IGN something to the contrary.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that NetherRealm isn’t doing some pretty stupid stuff. As you know, Goro is a pre-order character, and will only be available to those who get the game on day one. It means he’ll likely be banned from fighting game tournaments, and will end up as one of the lesser-used characters. They have no real idea of how that’ll be worked around.
I’m not really sure what they’ll do about that. Most likely, they will have him be a character that’s completely fight-able, but I guarantee that they will have a version of the game where they can put it on the machines to have him. Or maybe like what they did with Kratos in MK9, because he was only on the PS3. I think he was not allowed. So they might just say he’s not allowed. It’s usually the tournament that sets the rules. As far as we’re concerned, he would be a viable character, but the tournaments themselves set them, and they said no Kratos. And then DLC characters they did only after they’ve been out a certain number of days. So, I’m not sure what they’ll do actually, now that I think about it. But I would think he would just be allowed.
NetherRealm’s (or rather Midway’s)’ fighting games have never been the most balanced or deep, but that’s something that’s changed quite a bit with Mortal Kombat and Injustice – with both having been embraced by the fighting game scene. Fighting game fans have a lot to look forward to in the near future;in addition to Mortal Kombat, there’s Street Fighter V, and next week’s frankly beautiful Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-.

Honestly neither platform has really much that could be considered adding to the roster due to the gore, They’ve used Kratos already so unless they wanna use a giant PS logo as a character don’t think they have anyone, and they wouldn’t put Drake or so in since Fanboy’s would cry when sub zero zero’s his ass

Do you kiss you mother/father/girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband/significant other with that mouth?!
This is a family friendly site, if you’re going to swear like that then at least censor a few characters.

AngryJoe told the Mortal Kombat X developers that they should add Geralt of The Witcher as a playable character. That sounds like a good idea. It could work.

I’m sure Goro will be a DLC character within a month of the game’s release, even if they skirt the issue by renaming him something slightly different like “Ms Goro” and add a pink bow on top of his head to represent his newfound girliness.

I’m happy to see this but, I can’t help feeling a little sad. Now there is no chance of Needles Kane (Sweet Tooth is his car, not him) being a guest character.
