No Guitar Hero: Guns N’ Roses for Axl

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose claims Activision promised him a dedicated Guitar Hero game featuring music from the Chinese Democracy album to compensate for Guitar Hero III issues. Evidently they haven’t delivered.

I won’t say that I’m extraordinary disappointed, since their earlier work is just that much more awesome, but it would have been a sweet move for Activision if they did make this game or at least a game based on the band. But they didn’t and now Axl is mad and still suing them.

Rose initiated a $20 million lawsuit against Activision in 2010 concerning rights stemming from 2007’s Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and claims that he waited until 2010 to sue because Activision had promised him this game as well as “other proposals” worth millions of dollars between December 2007 and November 2010.

All this was revealed during proceedings in an L.A courtroom earlier this week as part of Rose’s ongoing lawsuit against the publisher where a judge booted Rose’s fraud claim. The judge however is allowing his breach-of-contract claim to see trial which is scheduled to begin on 1 February 2013. Luckily they’re catching this before the world ends.

Rose’s lawsuit against Activision in 2010 entailed the use of Saul Hudson’s (the guy in the top hat with the hair – Slash) virtual likeness In Guitar Hero III as well as claims that the publisher convinced him to lend “Welcome to the Jungle” to the game on conditions that the game would not feature Slash’s likeness or his follow-up group, Velvet Revolver. You see, this is funny because it’s all I remember of the game: Slash and Slither.

It seems the whole world has jumped on the “let me sue you for lots of money based on frivolous claims” train, no wonder we’re seeing so many issues surface in the video games industry.
