No man s sky 2

No Man’s Sky is getting a ridiculous amount of hype, but I swear no one means to build it up into something more than it is. It’s just incredible to think that each of us can take on the role of space pioneer, exploring unknown galaxies and planets, charting a new course towards the center of the universe. With so many galaxies and planets, as well as a play style to suit any personality, no amount of gameplay footage can spoil the game – at least according to game creator Sean Murray.

The Guardian spent some time with Murray during E3 and he explains the spoiler-proof nature of his game:

In this era, in which footage of every game is recorded and uploaded to YouTube, we wanted a game where, even if you watched every video, it still wouldn’t be spoiled for you. And we wanted those discoveries to be meaningful in the sense that they could be shared with other players, all of whom existed in the exact same universe, rather than inside their own random dimension.

This is what I find so intriguing. So people might just choose to spend their first couple days of gameplay exploring their home world, charting its unique environment and checking out all the points of interest available. Another player might board their ship as soon as possible and soar off into space, discovering all the nearby galaxies and planets. Others still might take an aggressive stance, killing wildlife and attacking random space ships.

I’m convinced that I’ll take a more exploratory path. I have no interest in trading or fighting. I want to explore the planets, find new worlds, scan for life and resources and see what the vast universe has to offer. See, even if I captured hour of gameplay footage of that, you’d probably never encounter those same planets, or experience them in the same way. It’s simply incredible and unfathomable compared to traditional games. I wish I could just play it already, or at least had a release date to look forward to. No Man’s Sky feels like zen to me.

Yep…. Me neither, I’m afraid of it being as underwhelming as a pancake under a cars’ wheel…Having seen some of the gameplay footage, the travelling aspect looks awesome, but hopefully it isn’t a grindfest….hopefully….

Well thats the thing… You need to “explore and gather” stuff to progress. Grind?
As for me, I’m going to wait a bit and see what it’s like first.

Yap! Me too, but as far as grindfesting goes, they have their own periodic table, and from what I’ve seen so far, you’ll eventually move past having to collect minerals, but anything else is a wild guess…

It’s going to be a grindfest, you have to explore, find planets, land on those planets and discover new resources and animals, then go and upload it all on a beacon to get credits. You use those credits and resources you gathered then to upgrade your weapon and ship.

yeah, except you won’t be exploring the same area and killing the same enemies over and over again in a grind. keep discovering new worlds, new creatures, etc. might feel samey after a while, or might actually manage to keep that feeling of exploration and discovery.

At least the planets can be terraformed so you could discover a underground cave system that could keep you busy for many hours. There’s also the choice of being a pirate so whooo to that. I’m most eager about this game’s terraform mechanics.

What I’m afraid of is that it might get repetitive, but as far as the planets and galaxies go, from first impressions, looks amazing!

With a world that basically seems endless with all those galaxies I would believe you cant get any spoilers out. They are staying away from the center of the galaxy when doing videos, but that’s considered end game material so its understandable.

I looked at the gameplay video this weekend finally and I must say totally disappointed looks to me at least childish and very boring, I expected something like Mass Effect planet wise this is just too cartoonish.

So I checked out a few vids and abused my works internet to do so and I have a 50/50 feeling for this game. Totally love the exploring planets thing and wouldn’t mind piggy backing on some of those creatures but the space flying thing isn’t really for me. The sheer size of the game is also a bit intimidating in some way. I don’t know… might do a bit more research for it once it’s released

I agree. I don’t get the hype for this game. It has potential to be neat but it has even more potential to be a huge flop, especially with all the hype going into it. Basically, nothing they’ve shown as regarding gameplay is that exciting yet and most of it is just completely overwhelming and off-putting: an infinite universe where my goal is to discover things, mostly solo? Sounds hopeless and lonely. Reminds me of playing arcade games from the 1980s where there literally was no end to the game, making me think, “What is the point? Why am I even playing this?”.
