No platform exclusive DLC in Fallout 4

I’m not a fan of most DLC – because 5 times out of 8, it’s superfluous guff that has little to no meaningful impact on the game, or the enjoyment thereof. What gets my goat even more than needless DLC is when said DLC is retailer exclusive or worse, timed to be exclusive to just one platform. That’s something that won’t be happening with the impending, eagerly anticipated Fallout 4. Responding to a fan question, Bethesda’s confirmed that here won’t be any platform exclusive DLC coming to fallout 4, timed or otherwise.

That said, I’m still bemused by Bethesda’s announcement of a Season Pass for Fallout 4 – despite them admitting they have no real idea of what that DLC might be.

“To reward our most loyal fans, this time we’ll be offering a Season Pass that will get you all of the Fallout 4 DLC we ever do for just $30. Since we’re still hard at work on the game, we don’t know what the actual DLC will be yet, but it will start coming early next year,” they said back then.

While there may not be timed DLC, there is a feature that Xbox One and PC owning wasteland survivors will get before their PlayStation-toting compatriots; Mods. While mods have been confirmed to hit the PlayStation 4 at some point in the future, the ability to tinker will be coming to (naturally!) PC first, then the Xbox One and then, at some indeterminate point in the future, the PlayStation 4.

It’s something I hope to see continued, because it’s actually rather depressing that this sort of thing gets reported as news, when it should just be the way things are.

In semi-related news, it seems that the download size for the game – at least on Xbox One – comes in at just shy of 30GB, so you’ll need to make sure you have that much space (and bandwidth!) if you’ll be picking the game up digitally come November.

Wow. I know mods can be great, but this kind of sounds like “Why do I need a Ferrari when I’ve got my go-cart?”

Come on=/ There really isn’t a comparison to a good dlc. Shivering isles, dead money (to me at least), blood moon. I can’t think of something that BEATS them.

The tamriel re-built mod for morrowind maybe.

That was mods from developers THEN…. Look at mods coming out NOW, short, mediocre fillers at a hefty price, that’s why most people say that mods from the community is getting better than the actual developers.

The community still cares for the game while developers do it for the cash. Seriously who releases a season pass and do not even know what they’re going to release within it.

I think you messed up this comment. Please go through and fix it a bit…

” Look at mods coming out NOW, short, mediocre fillers at a hefty price”

… ? I assume you meant to say “dlc” there…

But as for devs caring, that’s nothing more than a blanket statement. When did Bethesda ever do that? What was wrong with skyrims DLC? I agree it’s weird to sell a blank season pass, but we don’t have any information about fallout 4’s dlc WHATSOEVER, so we aren’t in a position to judge just yet.

Fact of the matter is why cough up $30 on something now that is to this point a heavy gamble when you can get Mods that is DLC quality for free (great example is Project Brazil). People who buy the pass are going on good faith for Bethesda, good faith that was ruined once with ESO.

I might be wrong and Bethesda will be giving some great downloadable content, but what if it’s absolute shit, what if it’s $30 worth of weapons and armor, weapons and armor you could have just downloaded for free as a mod.

” People who buy the pass are going on good faith for Bethesda, good faith that was ruined once with ESO.”

Bethesda didn’t make ESO. Blame zenimax=/

“I might be wrong and Bethesda will be giving some great downloadable content, but what if it’s absolute shit”

Again, apart from horse armor, they have never done that. And that was in 2006-08. You can say that about anything at all, unless you’re basing it something, it’s just speculation.

“what if it’s $30 worth of weapons and armor, weapons and armor you could have just downloaded for free as a mod.”

Then don’t but the season pass. I don’t recommend anyone does. But their track record is 2-5 large additions. If you don’t trust them, fine, but I don’t see what they’ve done to get gain this skepticism, in regards to DLC at least.

And finally, there aren’t many mods that come close to Bethesdas dlc. Maybe 4 or 5 across the board? You’re saying you think the one or two that fallout 4 will have can replace whatever bethesda makes?

You’re also pretending the existence of free mods makes it so dlc is irrelevant. Certain mods that come close to studio quality (debatable at any rate) doesn’t make it so dlc is devalued. Based on the past, they’ll make 2-5 large expansions, and we all know we’re going to get them. In your case, maybe because MANY mods rely on dlc.

30Gb isn’t so bad for an open-world game… Not bad at all.

Just look at GTAV – still the biggest install I’ve seen on my PS4, weighing in at over 58Gb in total! o_O

Not at all. Witcher sits around 50Gig. Shadow of Batman (which was kind of tiny) is around 44Gig.

Witcher 3 was 50Gb? Good grief! It’s still sitting around 38Gb on my console… Probably all those Ultra texture packs it needs for PC… 😉 🙂 (yes, I just dissed myself, being a console peasant and all 😉 )

          Haha.
Batman of Mordor was the one that really surprised me. Witcher 3 is immense, so I expected that, at least.

Well, it’s Bethesda. Aside from TESO and generally suing everyone who crosses paths with them, they tend to know what they’re doing.

Funny enough though. The market for physical games is still really cheap here.
Especially a game that’s over a year old. Those still sit (on pc) around $30 after a year. But you can grab them from betwee R100 and R150 on physical copy or those “value buy” packs

Digital games remain expensive because the market knows kids are grabbing mom and dads credit cards to buy the games.

I was reminded of that the other day, when I found my copy of Ghostbusters still unopened and marked at R100.00.
