No player trades in Destiny

One of the more common aspects of loot-heavy games like Borderlands, Diablo and most MMO’s is the ability to trade gears and equipment with your friends. It’s always nice when somebody has some bit of loot that’s just perfect for your character and gives it to you instead of selling it. You won’t be able to do this in Destiny.

Answering a fan-submitted question, Bungie has confirmed that the game will ship without player-to-player trades.

Nope,” Bungie replied on its website. “We want you to earn ’em. You should be able to tell a badass story for every sweet jewel in your arsenal.”

You will, however, be able to trade items between your own characters – if you happen to earn gear that would be better suited to your Hunter, as opposed to your Warlock, for example.

“Once you earn them, the various Guardians under your account will be able to trade them,” the studio explained further. “But weapons belong to the players who acquire them through action and bravery.”

Seems a bit of a limp excuse, but I do understand. This also goes some way in to mitigating the scourge of item duplication that always affects games of this ilk; let’s juts hope that hackers and meddlers aren’t able to just edit themselves a new set of overpowered guns in this as they did with Borderlands.

In related news, Bungie has also announced that Destiny has gone gold, which means it’ll be ready for its September 9 release.  The discs are being pressed and uploaded to digital stores as we speak.

“Destiny is Gold. Discs are being pressed and packed into crates. Destiny is done, in some respects. Even now, so close to the end, it still feels like we’re just getting started.”

Further to that, here’s a look at an unboxing of the super sexy white Destiny PlayStation bundle – which includes a physical copy of the game, and not a download token.

Having never played any MMO’s or Borderlands or Diablo I just don’t understand why I would want to give my gear to someone else!!! I will rather make another character and equip that little bastard with my loot!! And you can break up weapons for parts and grimour…. Don’t know what Weapon parts does yet but that sounds like a good idea to me…

Actually, it goes a long way to building relationships with people. Nothing quite like having a mate give you an awesome gun, then you remember them and reciprocate at a later stage. It’s like birthdays all the time!

I hear you but I think I am friendly enough by not shooting my buddies in the face the whole time…. 🙂
I played the strike with two random people, the one quit after 2 minutes and the other idiot kept on shooting me in the face every 20 seconds…. People are weird!!!

I think the weapon parts can only be used to upgrade existing weapons. Originally, I thought it would be part of a gear crafting system, but now I suspect it’s just used for gear upgrades.

I don’t mind that, I want to upgrade my weapons!! In any case chances are pretty good that you and Hammer will have the same weapons as what I do 🙂

      It’s a co-op FPS game… much like Warframe is.

I’m happy they’ve put this in place… means you don’t have everyone having the same thing, and people end up giving information on where to get that epic weapon or armor from.

    Good on you Bungie!

SIDE NOTE: thanks to everybody (and it’s a lot of you!) who have gifted me legendary gear in Diablo. You all rock.

Same here… But I do find that a lot of ‘Rare’ items are even more powerful than the ‘Legendary’ items I pick up… Still loving that game though. Honestly sitting here thinking about it – can’t wait to get stuck in again tonight! 🙂

I updated my D3 last night, want to get stuck into it again and get a few more characters leveled up… my Paragon level isn’t great just yet though.

I had D3 on 360, but bought this Ultimate edition for PS4. Still on my first playthrough (literally making sure I don’t miss anything) so only on about level 42… No Paragon yet. But it’ll come. 🙂 So loving this version – totally agree with Darryn that this is the definitive edition of D3. Awesomely addictive game.

I’m playing on PC… which is a hell of a lot better than the initial release. I’ve got 4 level 70’s and on Paragon level 46. Just haven’t really had the time to get some hours in on it though.

What’s mine… Will certainly remain mine!! I wouldn’t wanna share my cool, hard-earned gear with someone else (I’m greedy that way). 😉 🙂 Glad you can share things across your Guardians though – tried them all in the beta and can’t wait to give each one a go in the main game. September 9th cannot come quickly enough!
