No Prologue for Gran Turismo 7

A rare picture of Kazunori Yamauchi standing next to a car that ISN'T a Nissan Skyline

Gran Turismo is one of those odd titles that people will buy a console for. I know more than a handful of people who bought PlayStation 3’s just to play Gran Turismo 5. Though Gran Turismo 6 didn’t quite do as well as Sony and Polyphony had hoped, that game’s relative failure could be attributed to the fact that it was released for PS3…after the PlayStation 4 was out. Gran Turismo 7 will likely be quite the system seller for the PlayStation 4…when it’s released in 2028.

No, no..that’s not when the game is actually scheduled for, but given the series; protracted development it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing the game this year. Chances are we’ll probably not even see if next year, but Polyphony’s Kazunori Yamauchi hints that it may indeed see a 2015 release.

Interestingly, it seems Polyphony will skip the paid-for demo by way of a prologue version of the iterative racer as well.

"We are working on the title," he told Eurogamer, adding: "I don’t think it’ll make this year," and "I don’t think it’ll be a Prologue."

Unfortunately, it seems like those awful standard cars will still be included, and only premium racers will be given the next gen GT treatment. It’s all about choice, says Yamauchi.

"I doubt that we’ll be throwing away the standard cars," he said. "Each car has its own fans. So I think we’ll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars as they become available – but basically we’re more focussed on increasing the number of premium cars."

So Gran Turismo 7 is coming – and maybe, maybe this time the cars won;t all sound like toys.

Isn’t that the point? Show off how big your wallet-dick is so you can pick up chicks and make other dudes jealous?

I really don’t think Gran Turismo is as good as Forza. If I were in the position where I had to choose Xbone and Forza being the only title available, and PS4 with only Gran Turismo available, I wouldn’t hesitate to go with the Xbone (I don’t even like Xbox)

Oh Kaz, you should be making statements like the game will be running at 4K-2K at a steady 60fps but this time round the game will require you to login into YouTube 😛

GT5 came free with my PS3.

Each time I put the disc in, it needed to download an update.

Each update become twice the size of the previous one.

I eventually got fed up and put the game back in the box.

Especially when the average Joe has to spend 2 hours behind the wheel in grid lock traffic everyday.

GTV spent 5 years in development. 5 years.

Just reboot 5 for the PS4 It was already 1080p and 60fps on the PS3 so all we need to do now is loose the jaggies as the game was already near perfection. Besides the ZZZZzzzzzz menu system.

Just more focus on the tracks. If they can make an even more impressive version of Forza’s latest NÜRBURGRING then we have a winner.

They need to redo there audio. That is one of the biggest issues for me about GT. The car audio is horrible. Forza’s on the other hand is a lot better.

What the concept artist had in his mouth while he was thinking of the new Merc concept car.
    Just add wheels.

It’s a curious thing comparing Microsoft and Sony’s approach to the same core game concept. Microsoft feels you need to make a version every year and if not a full-on version, a spin-off (how long before Forza Cart Racing?). And a Game of the Year Edition that includes the DLC that was really part of the core game in the beginning and isn’t even all the DLC.

Then you have Sony who thinks the same game concept needs to take 20 years between releases (hyperbole) and offer surprisingly little difference between iterations.

Amazing how two companies can think so vastly different on the same subject, but wind up being so… mostly similar. After all, it is pseudo-realistic racing done via controller (or wheel if you pony up the cash).

You gotta love pseudo-realistic driving games played via controller though.
