No, Sony’s not bringing Crash Bandicoot back

goodtimes

Rumours swirled this weekend that Sony had picked up the rights to its erstwhile mascot, Crash Bandicoot and would be resurrecting the poor fellow. It would have been great; they could have given it back to its home at Naughty Dog, and given us a new bit of bandicoot platform action. It is however, not to be.

Nope. Activision still owns the rights to the franchise – and has no intention of letting it go any time soon.

“Activision owns Crash Bandicoot and we continue to explore ways in which we could bring the beloved series back to life,” an Activision representative told Game Informer.

Crash Bandicoot was originally released as a PlayStation exclusive in 1996. Developer Naughty Dog made two more sequels and a Kart racer before the property started bouncing around between a myriad of publishers and developers. It landed in Activision’s hands, along with Spyro, in 2008 and has since very nearly stagnated. Activision released just one proper Crash Bandicoot in the way of Crash: Mind Over Mutant, and a handful of mobile titles. It cancelled two more; Crash Landed, and an unnamed Crash Team Racing sequel.

Crash Bandicoot just hasn’t been much good since leaving Naughty Dog though, to be honest – and that studio’s moved on to bigger and better things. At this point, I think Crash Bandicoot is even more irrelevant than Sonic the Hedgehog.

This makes me sad… I would have wanted to play a new one.

At least there are other arcade games coming… Well hopefully.

SCREW YOU ACTIVISION!! I flipping loved Crash Bandicoot! The game I just not get enough of! Your sad excuses of Crash games were not what the people wanted! Give it back to Naughty Dog! Then again even if they got the rights, doubt they would go back to Crash… Then someone please make a NEXT GEN CRASH GAME!!

Rather report on faulty PS4 consoles again, stings less than no Crash Bandicoot.

Unbiased but clearly upset news anchor: “All PS4’s everywhere die in a fiery electrical explosion of hail and death. No one notices, because Crash Bandicoot is once again denied by Activision. Resurrection unlikely. Millions mourn a lost childhood. An Orca whale beaches outside Activision HQ in protest.”

Well if they ever had any intention of really reviving it, they would have let Sony use him for the their crossover fighter.
