No Xbox 360 Spring Update: Confirmed

Some bad news has arrived for Xbox Live users in the form of an interview with Marc Whitten on Next Generation.

It seems that Microsoft has opted to skip the Spring Update for this year, stating that they want to spend more of their time on building a “proper infrastructure and scale for the service”. They will however be making a few changes.

[Thanks to Krypty for the tip]

Microsoft will be making changes to their DRM policy, which will allow users to access downloaded content without having to be connected to Xbox Live, anyone who has had to replace their console will know what I am talking about. Another change is that MS are going to be streamlining Xbox Live Arcade by removing games that have underperformed (Ouch!), with xbox360fanboy.com reporting that “Games that have been on the market for over six months, have a Metacritic average lower than 65% and a conversion rate below 6% will be targeted for de-listing.” (Ouch again!)

This of course means that all Spring Update leaks that we heard about are all fake, it’s a shame really.

I remember reading through that list of updates and some of the idea’s were really good! I’m not sure about “fake” though there’s a chance that MS Live are just not ready to launch the version and may just need some time make it rock solid.

I’m excited to see what’s in the next update but I can be patient I don’t “need” anything for the moment … except for maybe more play time *sigh*

Hey it’s Flame Friday so lets go. At least when it comes to the Xbox live updates they do try make it as good as possible and only do it every 6 months. Unlike PS3 where it seems to be at their whim, oh we added the ability to uhmmm do other stuffs, here is an update. 115 megs later.

    Hmm, disappointing.

I guess the thing with lists like that is at the very least Someone at Microsoft has eye balled it and can get a few tips as to what folks want.

Ya Like Gazza says, that in itself is a welcome change. Doobi, I hope you are right cause its what im hoping too. If MS see that people really wanted some of the features, maybe they will add them. Maybe thats even why it was cancelled. We can only hope, cause if it has beenc put off to add cool features from that list, it will be worth the wait.

The other thing is what does the dashboard actually “need” as oppossed to cool new things we want? I can only think of group chat and better ratings/ordering on the XBLA content, these nothing severely wrong with it.
