No ZombiU sequel coming

This news makes me very sad.  I fell in love with the WiiU after seeing ZombiU, and it is still the best experience I’ve had on Nintendo’s new console (because I don’t play Monster Hunter).  But now, Ubisoft says there will be no ZombieU sequel due to profitability issues.

Ubisoft built the most popular launch title for the WiiU, ZombiU.  For those who haven’t seen or played it – it’s awesome and totally worthwhile.  I am horrible at these types of games, and I still adored it.  However, Yves Guillemot (Chariman and CEO of Ubisoft), told Games Industry that ZombiU wasn’t profitable, not even close.  Therefore, there are no plans or desire for a sequel.  In fact, it was because of ZombieU’s failure to bring in the money that Ubisoft decided to make Rayman Legends multi platform.

I can’t tell you how sad this makes me.  As you might know, Geoff loved that game.  I enjoyed it too, even though I was too unskilled (and terrified) to finish it.  One day I’ll get back to it… and die again.  But I was excited for a sequel – and the sequel was rumored to be at the prototyping stage.

Without ZombiU 2 coming, that trims down the mature games coming to WiiU.  In fact, I think the next adult game coming will be X, from Monolith Soft.  There are other fun games coming, but nothing that looks like it will have the maturity and depth of ZombiU.  C’mon Ubisoft, show some vision.  ZombiU 2 could have been the WiiU’s The Last of Us – driven people to buy the console and the game.  Although, I suppose that was their hope for ZombiU in the first place.  In the end, as sad as it makes me that Ubisoft has decided against this sequel, I suppose they have to focus on making games that will be profitable.

The onus is now on Nintendo to make the WiiU a desirable console.

Not even close. Was annoyed at the NON INVERTED bloody look controls, but other than that, was a natural 🙂
        Pity they don’t include a hammer…

I got the game with the special. But, purely objectively speaking, the game is a load of shit. It feels so “PS2” era. I’ve come quite far (lets say 10 hours in, minimum?) and the game has some nice features, but if this was released on the Xbox, PC or PS3, the scores would’ve been much lower. Also, didn’t help that I started playing TLOU before finishing the game. No chance of me going back to it now 🙁

Ubisoft should have got sponsor’s logos on the bat… they should have approach Gunn and Moore or Duncan Fearnley… that would have made it a tad bit easier…

That sucks… 🙁 I love the innovations, game design ideas and made it the most scary game I’ve played with dividing attention on Wii U Gamepad and one bite death and risking lossing character, items and experience. A horror game that really makes you think and place the player in the situation.

The same when Resident Evil 4 was a GameCube exclusive.
We all know why the PS2 drowned out that great machine, piracy… I think every PS2 ended up getting chipped. The GameCube could not do that because of those horrible 2.5gig mini discs.
I loved the GameCube but it seemed that their marketing was in the shitter just like the Wii U.

Before the Wii U was even out James Lanoir and I already called it the Next Gamecube fail.
The writing was on the wall.

RIP GameCube you are about to have some company in the coffin next door.
