Yesterday I posted an article about how the PSN downtime doesn’t appear to have affected the sales of the PS3 and was then summarily abused by a large swathe of the Internet for daring to use VGChartz figures, even though no one can actually find anything really wrong with them.
Well imagine my surprise when I woke up today to see that the NPD has released their American sales figures for April which show that the PS3 sales were increasing during the month that the downtime started.
Granted since it’s America the Xbox 360 still dominated but the PS3 posted a healthy 13% increase which would help explain why the PS3 sales don’t appear to have been affected that much yet.
When it comes to software however the clear winner was Mortal Kombat who beat up the rest of the competition to finish at the top of the pile followed by Portal 2, Lego Star Wars and then Call of Duty Black Ops. It’s amazing that Black Ops is still bringing in such high sales so long after its release.
Unfortunately since the NPD doesn’t release actual figures anymore we can’t see how far ahead/behind each console is but by all accounts the Wii is now solidly on the decline, the 360 is dominating in America and the PS3 is selling steadily.
