That 3 in the title of this article was not put there by me in an attempt to sound more l33t… that’s Activision’s doing. They’ve now confirmed that fan favourite map, Nuketown, will be making a return in Black Ops III – at least for those who pre-order the game.
Nuketown is easily one of the best multiplayer maps to come out of the Call of Duty franchise. It’s small, fast-paced, and filled with more action than ten Steven Seagal DVD collections combined. Basically, it’s a map that people will be happy to see make a return.
The new Nuk3etown has been redesigned to fully take advantage of the new movement system coming to Black Ops III. That’s according to Treyarch Studio Head, Mark Lamia, who said the following in a press release (via Engadget):
“The Nuketown maps have a special place in Call of Duty multiplayer history and we can’t wait to build upon that heritage in Black Ops III. We carefully adapted the design of the map to make sure that it fit with our new movement system, but to also make sure that we retained the spirit and the fun that made fans fall in love with it in the first place.”
So, what does this new redesign look like? Take a look at the header above – that’s Nuketown 2025, taken from Black Ops II. This is what the same map should look like in 2065.
Not too shabby! The only downside to this whole thing is that minor niggle of Nuk3town being a pre-order bonus, and only to those with PC or current gen consoles. Those who don’t cough the money up front, or who are equipped with older consoles will not be able to play it!
It’s such an irritating practice, truth be told. Seeing as Nuketown is such a fan favourite, I personally think it should’ve been thrown in for EVERYBODY, on EVERY platform. Making it a pre-order bonus is one way to boost sales of Black Ops III I suppose, which will inevitably end up selling millions anyway.

If i remember correctly they tried this shit with BOii as well, where i think they added it in as paid content after release. After a while “due to popular demand” AKA people moaning so much, they made it availabe to everyone.

“We’re going to re-release everyone’s favourite map, updated. You’ll have to buy it separately unless you pre-order.” LOL. They know how to play their fans.

I think this will open up peoples eyes and they will realize how Activision strings them along every year… I’m kidding of course it wont. Rince and repeat for the next 100 years it wont make a difference.

Ag, we all tolerate or justify shitty consumer-unfriendly practices when it comes to something we really like – it’s easy to turn a blind eye. Worse is when you know, can choose not to, but do it anyway. Especially when it comes to something like games, where you don’t have to. Fear of missing out is real, but I also didn’t die by not playing DA:I.

At least Activision haven’t allowed people to augment their preorder bonuses yet like some publishers
