WatchDogs

One of the most anticipated titles of the year has just been delayed until Spring 2014, in the northern hemisphere or rather Autumn 2014 for us basement dwellers.

The full press release goes as follows

“Our ambition from the start with Watch_Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014.

We know a lot of you are probably wondering ‘why now?’ We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and during other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion is what drives us.

We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next Spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it.”

All together now.. Boooooooooo

Man I was so excited for this game.

Disappointed, sure. But, I’m also never against a developer taking more time on their product. I want their vision, not a rushed version of it.

True, as long as there’s no day-one patch i’m fine with it 😉

Well, it doesn’t look like Watch Dogs has yet gone gold (to print) so whatever tweaks/polish they’re adding, should be able to be done to the core program, before it’s printed thus preventing a day one patch.

Still, for me it’d be a minor inconvenience, given my bandwidth, but I do understand the situation it puts others in, who don’t enjoy such luxuries. Hopefully they’ll do right by all of us.

Hear hear. And the little bit of honesty goes a long way. I think (at least for me), that honesty is why we (I) were so forgiving with Rockstar. They didn’t say online would be flawless at launch. They at least said “there’s going to be teething problems, bear with us”.

Well…that’s a different situation to me (GTAO), and it comes very close to the debacle that Diablo 3 suffered from. I’m not so quick to give Rockstar a free pass on this because I feel they failed to read the tea leaves on this. The fact that GTAO was delayed past launch of the product, gave them a great deal of insight about how much their server load would be (they also had a taste given how popular GTAIV’s online was and still is), and I don’t believe ‘teething problems’, fall under the category of completely doesn’t work for a time.

They should’ve postponed GTAO until they were certain they could handle the server load, to prevent as many problems as possible. That’s my take on that one. As stated before, I have no problem waiting for the developer to finish their vision, a rushed product, especially coming from a company like Rockstar which is beholden to no major publisher but itself, doesn’t really have an excuse here. But, that’s just me.

I’m strangely ok with this. It gives me time to get through my gaming backlog and I won’t have to worry about juggling GTA Online and Watch Dogs.

lol! I am actually one of you… Except for the fact that I am not going to play it on console. I would much rather wait for it to come out on PC.

Well that’s a pitty. Then again,I’ve always been for delays as long as the final product has something to show for it.

If however it’s delayed and there is a massive day 1 patch after the delay as well then I have issues

I really don’t mind the delay and this is one of the first games I’ve pre-ordered since XCOM enemy unknown. There are so many games coming out end of this year that I will gladly accept an improved game in Q1 2014.
