Old-gen Destiny players won’t have access to Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris from August

Whether you were rocking Xbox 360 or Xbox One, PS3 or PS4, Destiny was a somewhat even experience on two generations of hardware. Sure, the visuals may have had a bump on those newer machines, but Destiny fans were accessing the same game, events and content beyond that cosmetic difference. In year three however, last-gen players are going to be hard-hit by the changes that the Rise of Iron expansion will introduce.

With only 10% of that player base even on those older platforms, it makes sense. But it still stings somewhat for the few who remained behind. Rise of Iron will already only be available on Xbox One and PS4, with future updates and events being locked to that generation. According to Bungie, last-gen Guardians will be saying goodbye to all this content from August:

Trials of Osiris

The Trials of Osiris weekly Crucible event will no longer be available on Legacy Consoles beginning in August 2016. For more information on this event, please see our Trials of Osiris guide. To access Trials of Osiris after August 2016, Legacy Console players will need to upgrade from their Legacy Console and purchase Destiny: Rise of Iron once it is released.

Iron Banner

The Iron Banner Crucible event will no longer be available on Legacy Consoles beginning in August 2016. For more information on this event, please see our Iron Banner guide. To access Iron Banner after August 2016, Legacy Console players will need to upgrade from their Legacy Console and purchase Destiny: Rise of Iron once it is released.

Live Events

Legacy Consoles will not have access to any Live Events beginning in August 2016. Live Events are limited-time Destiny event that can include specific playlists, Quests, Bounties, or Rewards. Examples of previous Live Events are the Festival of the Lost, Crimson Days, or the Sparrow Racing League. To access Live Events after August 2016, Legacy Console players will need to upgrade from their Legacy Console and purchase Destiny: Rise of Iron once it is released.

Other regular features, such as Xur’s Friday visits will also be different. Last-gen Guardians will still be able to purchase from Xur, but he’ll no longer be selling individual pieces of exotic armour or weapons. Instead, players can purchase encrypted exotic engrams, Heavy Ammo Synthesis, Three of Coins, Vehicle Upgrades, Motes of Light and Glass Needles.

Other events that will remain on legacy consoles also include:

  • Daily Heroic Missions, Weekly Heroic Strikes and Nightfall Strikes
  • Daily and Weekly Crucible Featured Playlists and Weekly Crucible Bounties
  • Vault of Glass, Crota’s End, King’s Fall, and the weekly King’s Fall Boss Challenges raids
  • Prison of Elders for levels 28-41, as well as hallenge of Elders level 42
  • Gunsmith Armsday Orders and Test Weapons.

Destiny: Rise of Iron launches September 20 on PS4 and Xbox One. Xbox 360 and PS3 guardians, are now officially the grumpy old men of this franchise.

They might as well offer a free upgrade to those who have bought the current gen consoles.

At least when I upgrade my PC i get to keep all my games I’ve bought. I don’t need to go buy the game again just because I got a new PC.

This seems like a doos move and very uncool. If you are forcing people to upgrade to a new console to play a mode that HAS BEEN AVAILABLE in the game then you should at least give them the upgrade free when they upgrade. Not force them to buy the game again.

    Doos move is doos.

That’s Bunged Gee for you. The only retarded dev that forces you to purchase the entire game over and over only for them to remove content that you have paid for over and over. I stopped playing destingy at the time of the Taken King and will probably never go back due to their money grabbing exploits. I do not know of another developer that removes content whenever they released a DLC

True, but it shouldn’t take long for us to find our way again.

Bungie to the dirty last-gen peasants: “You should have bought a boner or a PS4, scrubs!”
