Ori and the Blind Forest was profitable within a week

Ori 6

I thoroughly enjoyed Ori and the Blind Forest. No, the plot wasn’t the most riveting, and I was irritated that I couldn’t go back to certain areas of the game, but the sound track and overall aesthetic were absolutely perfect. Plus, it got me to feel emotional while playing, which is always a success for a jaded gamer. The studio is also feeling some emotions, probably brought on by money.

Moon studios CEO Thomas Mahler posted on NeoGAF saying that:

Business-wise, Ori was already profitable a week after release and Microsoft is super happy, so we’ll see about Ori’s future 🙂

What does that mean? Well, according to another post he wrote, he thinks that there’s a lot more to be told of Ori’s story. I’m less convinced, but he believes that they created some interesting characters in a memorable world. Personally, I think the story and characters were the weakest aspects of the game. Still, I’d love to see more from Moon Studios – if they can do more with the IP and still keep it as a tight, well-crafted experience, I’d be thrilled. Just please don’t let him go forward with his idea for a feature film.

Are you part of why Ori made a profit so quickly? Did you pick this one up on PC or Xbox One, or are you waiting for an Xbox 360 release? This is one of those “exclusives” that won’t help ship consoles, but definitely makes Xbox One owners happy. At least those who only jump on the bandwagon now can rest assured – you are helping the studio make even more money and hopefully make more games like this.

On a sort of related note, Child of Light was magnificent!

Its the best art direction that I have ever seen in a game and it was made from Ubisoft, a company with the worst quality assurance. I am worried that the success of this 57 person team is going to be herded up into the Ubisoft milking machine for the sequel.

I hope that is NOT the case.

Music, art, atmosphere, good simplistic proper combat, feels and more feels.

One of the best games I’ve played

This game is brilliant, I bought it on release, and am happy I did. My biggest qualm with this game, is that it is on the xbox one. My hate for the X1 interface is more than my will to play this game. Even though I think this is a good contender for game of the year

I so want this game badly… Sadly financially I barely can afford any game of any sort, not even the cheap games on the PS Vita <_<

That’s basically whats left in my bank account XD
The sadness of wanting to be a gamer but not able to afford it any of it. But I am hopeful to one day play all the games I’ve ever wanted to play. For now stalking them will have to do for me

Was a really nice game. I did get frustrated a few times when I essentially had to make blind jumps and hope there was something for me to bounce off from.
Regardless I hope they make a sequel or something similar down the line. Well worth the purchase overall.
