We’ve all experienced it. That moment when a game isn’t going your way and defeat is inevitable. Most of us have the guts to fight until the bitter end, something that happens frequently in Blizzard’s Overwatch when you start a round and suddenly realise that your entire team consists solely of Reaper players. It’s never fun being a man down in Overwatch, as that game has a delicate balance of teamwork where everyone has to pull their weight in battle.
And such shenanigans could be punished severely in the upcoming Competitive Play mode for Overwatch.
It’s a mode that’s designed for the fans who take Overwatch very, very seriously. People who play to win dammit, not have a good time. Which means that such teams are going to have plenty of rage-quitters. But Blizzard has a plan in place for such people, according to this screencap posted on the Overwatch sub-reddit which details bans for repeat offenders. “Repeatedly leaving games will result in a 75 [percent] penalty to XP earned,” the pop-up read, with the message appearing when leaving a game during the competitive beta.
Additionally, you can be suspended from competitive play for increasing periods of time, up to receiving a ban for the entire season.
That’s a bit harsh, but probably deservedly so. It’s not too dissimilar to what Blizzard is already doing with the Quick Play mode in Overwatch, as first-time offenders get a warning and then a 75% reduction in experience earned until they reset the balance of completed games and abandoned matches. This also follows on from a massive ban-hammering, that saw Blizzard kick out more than 1500 cheaters from its servers.
Competitive Play is supposedly launches soon in Overwatch, so remember: Play nice. Lest you hear a Blizzard admin shout “HAMMER DOWN” on your account.

I need to check my stats, but I don’t think I’ve actually abandoned a game… Is that even in the stats? *twitch*

What is the difference between Rage Quitting and the internet dropping out and coming back 10 seconds later? This happens sometimes on our ADSL, either Telkom or ISP to blame.
