Pachter: EA has to start over in search for new CEO

Michael Pachter, who has something to say about everything, says that Don Mattrick’s move to Zynga has also been a setback for Electronic Arts.  According to Pachter, Mattrick had been a “front-runner” to take over as EA CEO, and now EA will need to start over in their search.

Not only was Mattrick a veteran of EA, it’s believed that he was in talks with EA about returning as CEO.  Pachter states:

“EA presents a different challenge from Zynga, with over 4x the revenue and significantly higher profitability, and we think that the company is largely on the right track already. We were surprised that Mr. Mattrick took the Zynga job. We believed that the larger company presented a more prestigious opportunity.”

“Now that Mr. Mattrick has taken the job at Zynga, EA is back to square one in its search. We believe that the company will find few qualified candidates outside the company, and will ultimately choose between the top two internal candidates, COO Peter Moore and EVP Frank Gibeau. Both men are capable of running EA, in our opinion, and investors would respond favorably to either being appointed.”

Currently, Larry Probst is acting as interim CEO until EA is able to find the right person.  I have to wonder what qualities they are looking for in their new CEO, and why Don Mattrick is so desirable at the moment.  For the last few weeks he has been one of the most hated men in gaming – I wonder if he can turn perception around.  Who do you think should take the helm at EA?  What sort of changes would you like to see?

Well if number 1 is no longer available, how about number 2?

Ok, I’m just going to come out and say it. How hated and/or bad must EA be when even the guy who got flamed for the horrible M$ DRM isn’t willing to get on board with them?

You want my opinion. Get Gabe to be CEO so he can drop origin and move all the games back to steam. Also the company will do better with him there.
