Patapon remaster gets a release date

If you never owned a PSP, then it’s likely that you missed out on one of the hottest Sony properties ever created: Patapon. The rhythm game debuted on the Sony handheld and went on to spawn a handful of sequels, but has been absent from the current slate of games for years now. As part of a big Sony resurgence into their back catalogue, Patapon is getting another shot with a remaster of the first game. And it’s out really, really soon.

Patapon Remastered will launch on PS4 on August 1st, bringing the delightfully colourful and catchy title Sony’s latest generation for the first time. The game will launch with all the content intact, but with several enhancements to the visuals that include native 4K support on the PS4 Pro. The game is stunning in motion, and will have you tapping your feet just like you remember it did on the PSP.

Patapon Remastered is probably the biggest title of the three remasters Sony announced at PSX last December. PaRappa The Rapper launched earlier this year to some middling reviews, while LocoRoco got a new lease on life with an utterly charming remaster of its own. But it’s really Patapon that I want to see excel, so that Sony has a good reason for possibly making another one at long last.

Sony hasn’t yet revealed a price for the game, but you can expect it to fall somewhere around the $20 mark if the past two remasters are anything to go by.
