PayDay 2 developer Overkill admits it “screwed up”

We’ve gone over the murky situation surrounding Overkill and its implementation of microtransactions. Worse than the implementation itself (which is pretty bad) is how the company’s been uncommunicative, especially to its volunteer moderators; the people trying to clean up the messes they’ve been making.

It’s angered players, it’s sent moderators on strike, and its generally left the company looking like a bunch of greedy overlords, sitting in their ivory towers and guffawing about the plight of the peasantry.

In a post on the Steam Community page, Overkill’s Almir Listo admits that the company screwed up.

“The past few weeks have been some of the most challenging in the history of this community,” producer Almir Listo said.

“Players have been angry with us, media have written about us en masse and our volunteer moderators went on strike. For all the distress we’ve caused the past few weeks, I’d just like to take the time and say that we’re sorry. We’ve done a lot of things right in the past, but these past few weeks we screwed up.”

So what now? Are they giving up, getting rid of microtransactions, and making everything right? No! don’t be silly. According to Overkill, microtransactions are working as intended, so why should they?

“We will let you know more information as discussions continue regarding many of the issues we intend to improve on,” listo says, speaking of the future. “We will be reading our public steam forums closely for feedback and we will be engaging in community discussions as much as we possibly can. The coming weeks we will finish this year’s last updates, including this year’s annual free Christmas heist.”

It’s a bit of a non-apology, all thing considered – with Listo seemingly more upset that they’ve been called out than for doing the stuff that enraged the community in the first place.

    Too late Overkill.
I’ve uninstalled my PayDay2. Your shenanigans left a bad taste in my mouth.

I am just hoping PayDay3 is much better this month. I wonder if my boss will update the build a bit so I can get a few more bytes of food…

        Oh man, I feel you.
My problem is all the microtransactions that happen before I get my payout. That really ruins it for me.

Never like this game anyways… Should’ve been F2P to begin with…

I loved it. Spent over 330 hours on it, stopped the moment they started with the MT crap.
They said a few years back that it’s something they would never do. Guess everyone gets a bit money hungry eventually, even when you’re bringing out a DLC nearly each second month.

Get angry at the people paying for microtransactions if it is “working”?

The problem is that they said they wouldn’t add MT but added it anyway. Also Almir Listo gives of a Phil Fish vibe which is a bit too creepy for my liking

Not sure if I’d pick this up, even if it was added to PS+

We screwed up on everything… except the microtransaction (the one thing everybody is moaning about).

Sounds to me like they’ve been taking lessons from EA:
Alright…now repeat after me: “The things that makes us the most money is best for the customer.”, “Microtransactions is what everybody doesn’t know they really want.” , “An apology is stronger than any stupid mistake you could make.”

Overkill: “Hey we know we did this wrong, okay!?”
    Fans: “So then change it?”
    Overkill: “Lol no.”

I hope other guys, Ubisoft, have a good look on how to mess up a good game. Then look at Fallout 4 and learn on how to make a great game with no MT!

MT should only be added if the game was F2P in the 1st place. Then a MT system can be accepted. But to add this grap to a AAA game, where you paid a fucking AAA price, is just insane.

I agree. The only place for MT is on an F2P game.
      This is bullshit.
