Payday will be free for 24 hours

Payday is sadly, a franchise that I have not yet touched. It has always intrigued me though. A game all about the perfect heist? How have I missed it? If like me, you’d be interested in trying it out, then you’re in luck. Payday: The Heist will be free, but only for 24 hours.

Overkill Software, the developers, are doing it as part of their celebration of the franchise’s third birthday. They have made a steam group with various milestones. The more community members there are in the group, the greater the number of rewards that are unlocked. Payday as a free download was the 1 050 000 member milestone. They have long surpassed that, and are now sitting on 1 511 280 (at time of writing). Here’s what Almir Listo, an Overkill Producer, had to say (via PC Gamer)

“This was going to happen on the 18th originally but since you guys did such an awesome job we want to give you the reward as soon as possible. Tell your friends and family that they can download Payday: The Heist for free on Thursday morning of October 16th at 10AM Pacific. We’ll give out clear instructions on how to download it come Thursday.”

There are a ton of other rewards too, but this one is easily the most significant for gamers who have missed out on the title. Be sure to add it your untouched backlog!

Maybe we should turn this into an opportunity for a community play night. What say you? I will gladly put aside my cabbage for one evening if it means coordinating and working together to… steal stuff?

I’ve been eyeing this game for a while, just not sure how fun it would be playing SP. If it’s anything like Warframe some missions are fine to solo while others you really do want other people around else it can get frustrating.

I used to play these, good fun, always trying to work a way of doing it solo. Some maps you can’t do solo.

Many maps are sort of like, you can do it quick and dirty or slow and stealthy. Invariably you need a full team to hit the quick and dirty option.

Slow and stealthy. Just like the courtship of my future wife.

Or like my typical Payday game, starts out slow and stealthy up to the point somebody wants to call the pigs then you have to gag and cable tie somebody and go down quick and dirty,

Will the game be playable after the 24 hour period is up?

On PS3 the AI wasn’t up to scratch. Payday2 is a lot better since it made dropping in on public games easier. So it is a fun team shooter to kill 30min but still lacks depth.

If they can incorporate Rainbow 6 style planning and coordination element to the game it will be a proper AAA game.

PC version gets a lot more love than the console versions… unfortunate truth.

Can’t really compare the console and PC versions. As they are very different. Unfortunately for console players, the PC version gets a lot more attention and love. Both Payday2 and the heist.

Well I’m a payday 2 player. Have almost 200 hours under the belt. And that game is fantastic. I have only played about 5 minutes of payday 1… but it’ll still be nice to add that game to my library. And maybe that will entice more people into joining the payday 2 community.

Oi! It’s free for only one night, but once you have downloaded it, it’s in your library FOREVER! In other words, you own it.

Just to put it out there. Some DICE members moved over and created Overkill Software. These guys worked on older BF titles, which was pretty awesome back then.
