Steam for Linux

It’s finally here, Steam for Linux launches with a totally unexpected celebratory sale. Welcome to our world Ubuntu users, you will hence forth be broke until you die.

Steam for Linux will not only offer video games, but Steam Big Picture too. It’s going to be interesting to see if developers start to include Ubuntu as a platform for their games. David Pitkin, Director of Consumer Applications at Canonical thinks they will.

“The introduction of Steam to Ubuntu demonstrates growing demand for open systems from gamers and game developers,” said David Pitkin, Director of Consumer Applications at Canonical. “We expect a growing number of game developers to include Ubuntu among their target platforms. We’re looking forward to seeing AAA games developed with Ubuntu in mind as part of a multi-platform day and date release on Steam.”

But enough of that, here’s what you really want to see, the sale! Over 50 Linux titles are 50-75% off until 21 February. These titles include:

  • World of Goo
  • Bastion
  • Serious Sam 3: BFE
  • Trine 2
  • Counter-Strike: Source
  • Team Fortress 2
