PewDiePie, for those who don’t know, is one of the world’s most popular YouTubers and his unique style, which I like to describe as a grown man with his genitals stuck in a blender, shows no sign of losing popularity or steam.
PewDiePie has over 39 million subscribers and no the record he broke this weekend wasn’t hitting the magical 40 million mark but something even more mindblowing.
Over the weekend the total views on his YouTube account smashed through the 10 billion mark, that’s 10 with 9 zeroes after it (Pay attention, Geoff). In fact it appears to have broken the YouTube counter as his views have been stuck on 10 010 323 310 since at least last night at 7pm.
This wouldn’t be the first time a popular video or person has broken the YouTube counters with the addictively annoying Gangnam Style by Psy breaking the single view counter late last year when it hit 2 147 480 647 views.
Taking a quick look at PewDiePie’s average view count is enough to depress any up-and-coming YouTuber with his average videos raking in over 3 million impressions each.
Now YouTube earnings are a closely guarded secret as everyone earns different amounts depending on what advertising they can draw, but a quick Google search sticks the average earning at between $5 and $7.50 for 1000 video views.
So if PewDiePie averages 3 million impressions per video he is taking home at least between $15 000 and $22 500 per video. If I earned that much screaming at my children for 5 minutes I’d be a much happier person. To make you even more depressed, I did a quick calculation how much he’s earned over the 10 billion hits:
$75 000 000
And then keep in mind he probably also makes a lot more money from external sponsorships, merchandise sales, sponsored videos and appearance fees. So that 75 million dollars is the bare minimum that he has made over the last 5 years since he opened his account.
I’m going to go weep into my cornflakes now.

I just don’t understand. His voice hurts my ears when I listen. His videos also are not entertaining. I just don’t get it.
But then again I simply don’t get the whole let’s play thing (Unless it’s Matty Fig doing a horror let’s play). I’m just not drawn to watching others play games I’d much rather be playing myself.

Some people make the experience enjoyable like FrankieonPC because they actually tell a story or Sovietwomble cause they make it funny. But that is more about the interaction that they experience in mp games. This guy plays single player games and makes noises.I thought only babies enjoyed that type of thing.

He plays countless MP games. And plays co op with other people on his channel. So I can fully understand people enjoying how his brand of unusual interacts with other brands of unusual. But hey. In a world where Kim Kardashian is famous… PewDiePie is the last person I’d hate on for whatever he is doing that makes him successful. Even if those noises are just plain weird.

1 billion views on a single channel, run by a single person is pretty impressive, but its not exactly new.
roman atwood also just broke 1 billion views on his main channel aswell, with 1.042 billion views. his personal vlog channel is also on 700 million aswell, in terms of views, atwood has crushed pewdiepie, but in terms of subs, his combined total isnt even half of pewds.
the dude also earns piles of money, has a nissan GTR, lives on a massive estate and pretty much lives the life
phillip defranco is even more impressive. his main channel has 1.4 billion views, with a combined total of over 2.5 billion views on all his channels, which he uses to run a business that actually benefits other youtubers.

I started watching his Until Dawn series over the weekend (won’t be getting a PS4 any time soon). I really enjoyed it.. The extreme amount of blasphemy got a bit much, but he does have his moments. Even my extremely conservative fiance laughed pretty hard a couple of times. Can’t wait to finish the series
